CPD Overview

This CPD explores how flooring design influences safety, comfort, and wellbeing.

Description

This CPD looks beyond compliance to show how acoustics, slip resistance, visual clarity, and tactile qualities affect how people experience and move through spaces. Attendees will learn how evidence-based flooring choices can create safer, more inclusive environments while meeting regulatory and sustainability goals.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how flooring influences safety, comfort, confidence, and cognitive wellbeing, not just compliance.
  • Recognise how poor slip resistance, acoustics, or visual design can increase stress, fatigue, and loss of confidence, particularly for neurodivergent and ageing users.
  • Understand how flooring performance is tested and assessed, including emerging methods that consider real use and human experience.
  • Evaluate how construction methods, materials, and surface textures influence acoustic behaviour, balance, and user perception.
  • Specify flooring systems that enhance wellbeing in sensitive or high-risk environments such as hospitals, care homes, schools and workplaces.
  • Integrate flooring design into holistic wellbeing frameworks including the WELL Building Standard, BREEAM, and inclusive design principles.
