SBID pioneered engagement in the UK between universities and industry in its founding year, until that time education and employment had not engaged. SBID was appointed to assess the criteria and content within interior design courses. It remains the unique design body to have created modules incorporated into a degree course. By 2012, ten collective regions cover the nation with a direct local university collaboration, and by 2018 a total of 97 British university’s BA degree course students engaged in our annual student competitions, whilst a growing number of universities applied for Accreditation. This unprecedented collaboration made the pioneering SBID event the largest of its kind for interior design in the UK and provided an overall prize of £35,000 to the winning students.
By 2019 each regional location was recognised with a Centre of Excellence and collectively, these locations represent a diverse offer of courses at varying levels of expertise to provide education and training for everyone regardless of personal limitations.

Students enrolled at any SBID Accredited University can apply for free student membership.
The following Universities have been SBID Accredited, meeting the highest standards of education for interior design to ensure students are trained and developed for a career in interior design.
