HALL 8 is the creative heart of the trade fair

For the very first time, the popular Framing Trends showcase – the communicative and creative heart of the entire show – will occupy the whole of Hall 8. Framing Trends is where the “ATMYSPHERE” keynote theme takes physical form in an array of ingeniously inspired walkthrough presentations, creating a vibrant, electric atmosphere where thought-provoking discussions can take place and new cooperative ventures can emerge. In the Flooring Spaces, NuThinkers and Art & Interaction areas, manufacturers, interior designers, students and artists will showcase their special interpretation of the mega trend Well-Being.

Talks & Tours at DOMOTEX 2020

The Talks program will run from 11 am to 4:30 pm on each of the four days of DOMOTEX. This is a richly varied program of speed presentations followed by discussions on topical issues. The program on Friday is dedicated to the planning methodology known as building information modelling (BIM). On Saturday, the speakers will address social and ecological aspects, while the Sunday program is dedicated to health-promoting home and work environments. SBID’s Founder and CEO, Dr Vanessa Brady OBE will be making an appearance with her talk, Interior Designer Product Selections: Influences and insights for manufacturers on Sunday 12th January at 10.30 am! Finally, Monday’s program is aimed at university students and career-starters – an opportunity for budding young architects and planners to gather information and find answers to their questions on careers and career planning.

Each day of the show, AIT-Dialog will conduct guided Tours for architects, interior designers and experts to gain deeper insights into the keynote theme, discover the products on display and, of course, make contact with exhibitors. Running from 12 to 2 pm and again from 3 to 5 pm each day, the tours will be led by big-name international architects and interior designers. The morning tours will focus on various aspects of the keynote theme, such as healthcare, acoustics, digital technology and sustainability, while the afternoon tours will take in product innovations of interest to the contract flooring sector.

Design Miami/ is the global forum for design. Each fair brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. The unique exhibition layout of ARCHITECT@WORK was created to ensure optimal contact between exhibitors and visitors, as visitors are automatically led along a route that winds its way through the exhibitors stands, showcasing their latest innovations. At ARCHITECT@WORK, traditional aisles are transformed into lounge zones: places to enjoy a drink, to network and to provide further explanation about innovative products, applications or services.

The Buildings Show 2019 – Toronto, Canada

Lead for success. Empowering design professionals to improve business and industry practices, solve problems and save time and money while earning education credits for ARIDO and IDCEC. This year, The Buildings Show will be running from Wednesday 4th December, with opportunities to explore new technology innovations, attend informational sessions and connect with industry influencers.

Alongside showcasing inspiring and informative design concepts, the Buildings Show offers interior conversations about lighting, design trends for colour, kitchens and baths, workplaces, accessibility and inclusive design, social resilience and wellness, BIM, AI and the future of work. SBID Product Design Awards 2020 launching December!

The SBID Product Design Awards 2020 will officially open for entries this December. Designed to recognise, reward and celebrate the industry in product design, the Awards will showcase world-class manufacturers and designers who provide solutions, which in turn raise industry standards through the innovation and functionality of products for the interior design sector. Covering a diverse range of specialisms, the winning product designs will be judged in categories across Furniture, Lighting, Flooring, Surfaces, and more. With each entry being evaluated by leading, internationally-admired interior designers and pan-industry experts, confirmed judges for the SBID Product Design Awards 2020 include; Group CEO and Executive VP at Unilever Prestige, Vasiliki Petrou; Head of Interior Architecture at Zaha Hadid Architects, Kar Ho; Director of Interior Design at IHG, Henry Reeve; Head of Harrods Interior Design, Letitia Fitzgibbon; and Director of the Cowell Group, Nicholas Cowell.

Recognised as the leading platform in the Middle East for original, high quality design, Downtown Design unites international brands with the regional design community, strengthening Dubai as a central meeting point for creatives. As part of the programming of Dubai Design Week, the region’s largest creative festival, and in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3), Downtown Design is housed within a bespoke structure overlooking the d3 Waterfront. This year the fair presents a fresh selection of brands and feature areas, providing a dynamic environment where design meets opportunity.

Downtown Design’s Trade Programme continues to address the needs of the competitive design industry, helping members raise their profile and forge industry relationships. Featuring a series of networking events and privileges, designed to help design professionals make the most of the fair’s platform, it facilitates opportunities for architects and interior designers to connect with peers, brands and industry influencers.

2019 Fair Highlights

For the 2019 showcase, Downtown Design has engaged three award-winning design teams to help to remaster the fair’s layout, executing concepts that demonstrate the sophistication of regional design firms. Wilson Associates, Swiss Bureau and XBD Collective have been tasked with bringing creative elements to the fair’s public areas, including the bar and the café.

Downtown Editions Highlights

This year, Downtown Editions will continue to spotlight new regional initiatives, young designers and up-and-coming brands.

Designers presenting works inspired by the culture and traditions of the Middle East include emerging designer Hajar Abdallah, whose debut installation celebrates the region’s equestrian culture, and Sharjah-based Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council who will present an outstanding collection of objects developed in collaboration with Emirati craftswomen and leading contemporary designers. Award-winning architectural studio Binchy & Binchy will launch ten new tables inspired by architecture, challenging themselves to determine a design language that is truly Emirati.

The Forum at Downtown Design

In a series of talks and workshops, designed to support design professionals and enthusiasts, ‘The Forum’ offers creative, commercial and strategic industry insights by global and regional design experts. Themes will range from how to build a business in design, to managing clients in design firms and design marketing.

Highlights include the award-winning Paris-based architect Lina Ghotmeh and India’s leading architect and curator Ashiesh Shah, who both feature on a panel championing the power of design, and multi-faceted interior designer Greg Natale, who will present a masterclass in achieving a successful design business.

Denise Neri, who leads the architectural and conceptual design of Aesop stores worldwide, will lead a panel on the future of retail while Allesandro Minotti of the leading Italian furniture makers Minotti and Dara Huang, founder of multi-disciplinary studio Design Haus Liberty will speak to building design brands with staying power. Marcus Fairs, founder and editor-in-chief of Dezeen will lead a panel discussion exploring the design community’s role as an agent of positive change.
