Sustainable Design Summit 2023

In partnership with NEWH, Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Europe has released its full schedule of content. Taking place on 29 – 30 November at London ExCeL, design leaders from Europe’s most esteemed cruise lines and design firms will be sharing their knowledge, insights, and experience through a series of CPD-certified panel talks and discussions.

The programme, curated around today’s ocean, river, and expedition cruise market, delivers a comprehensive range of topics and case studies covering concepts and inspiration behind beautiful designs, the dark art of project management, storytelling through design and brand identity, the future of marine interior design, and designing for adventure.

The prestigious speaker line-up includes Gianluca Gugliotta, Director, Vessel Refurbishment – Norwegian Cruise Line, Aida Lora, Senior Design Associate – Royal Caribbean Group, Bob McGowan, Head of Operations – Ambassador Cruise Line, Sandra Correia da Silva, Architect – Mystic Cruises, Alexander W. This year, the Conference & Workshop Programme is CPD-certified allowing professionals across discipline to further their learning activities and gain developmental hours from attending each accredited session.

The boutique event will also be debuting a new content format with keynotes and workshop sessions taking place predominantly on the second day and held on beautifully designed exhibitor stands around the show floor. This dynamic programme facilitates a seamless day of inspiration and development.

Stand-out sessions include the opening keynote and the only session to take place on the first day, ‘Inspiration for beautiful design: Case studies in materials & spaces’. Delivered by leading interior designers, attendees will be guided through a showcase of unique and inspiring projects across newbuild and refurbishment portfolios.

Those looking to gain insight into the changing shape of expedition cruising should attend ‘Designing for adventure: Spotlight on expedition cruise interiors’. In this session industry experts dive into the impact the sector’s growth has had on designing for functionality, whilst still giving guests an authentic and luxurious experience.

Alongside these curated panel discussions, CSI Design Expo Europe offers visitors additional learning opportunities at the Meet the Brand Q&As and Project Management Lunch. These focused sessions give attendees the chance to get to know the design and procurement professionals within the industry and learn how to navigate a successful project from concept to delivery.

The full Summit Agenda has been released for the second edition of Sustainable Design Summit – the world’s only forum to unite the cruise, hotel, and aircraft interiors sectors. The thought-leadership event serves as a catalyst for change in interior design across these three chosen industries.

With a strong focus on collaboration and innovation, interior designers, specifiers, sustainability specialists, and suppliers alike meet to share insights and explore the new era of sustainability goals.

Highlighted Sessions and Headline Speakers:
The one-day Summit tackles today’s biggest challenges with designing and sourcing responsibly. The pivotal opening keynote ‘Progress, leadership, and transparency through the supply chain’ unites decision makers across each sector, including Joshua Wilkie – Manager, Waste Management and Circularity Programs at Air Canada, Mathieu Petiteau – Newbuilding & R&D Director at Ponant, and Sam Hall – Director, Interior Design – Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Hosted by Darian Stibbe – Global Leader, Partnerships for Sustainable Development; Executive Director at The Partnering Initiative, delegates will be guided through a CPD-Certified programme of keynotes and topic-specific breakout sessions focussing on case studies and companies that are at the forefront of sustainable design. Stand-out sessions include ‘Understanding your emissions: What are your numbers really telling you?’, ‘Materials innovation & collaboration in the supply chain’, and ‘From collaboration to impact: Developing approaches and next steps’.

The revered speaker line-up features interior designers, both highly specialised and those who work cross-industry, lead specifiers, and sustainability specialists. This Autumn, the Clerkenwell Design Trail, on 4-5 October, will bring the A&D community together to re-connect and network across Clerkenwell’s historic cobbles.

The stand-alone event will bring the area to life as CDW’s iconic pink trail, flags and window vinyl return to EC1. It gives producers the opportunity to demonstrate the design and production process of their products and to give hands-on experience to the luxury design community. Decorex worked closely with Cockpit, The Black Artisans, Future Icons, QEST and Rycotewood communities this year to pick the 15 artisans.

The Colour Cafe, designed and built by YesColours, will focus on colourful yet sustainable design and feature a kaleidoscope of colours and brand partners that will showcase the positive impact colour can have on residential, commercial and public spaces. London Design Fair is calling upon key names in the industry to collaborate in 2023, hosting pockets of content and bespoke installations reflecting the eclectic atmosphere of the Fair. Formerly known as Tent London, London Design Fair will make its much-anticipated return to the iconic Truman Brewery in Shoreditch on 21 -24 September 2023.
