New Product Spotlight: Artcoustic SL Mikro 21st July 2026 | IN DESIGN TECHNOLOGY | BY SBID

Dean Sutton, Managing Director of Wakefields of London, has given his insights into the new Artcoustic SL Mikro.

The new Artcoustic SL Mikro has been developed for projects where space is limited but great sound is still expected.

At just 126mm high, it offers interior designers far greater flexibility than traditional in-ceiling or wall speakers, while remaining true to Artcoustic’s design-led philosophy. Available in black, white or any RAL Classic or NCS 2050 or 1950 colour, it can either blend seamlessly into the architecture or become a subtle design feature in its own right.

Where does it work best?

An excellent alternative to in-ceiling speakers

Traditional architectural speakers often require a significant ceiling cut-out, which can clash with lighting layouts, air conditioning, steelwork or other services. The SL Mikro’s incredibly small footprint gives designers much greater freedom when coordinating ceiling layouts without sacrificing quality audio.

Commercial & retail environments

Perfect for boutiques, showrooms, hospitality and reception spaces where discreet aesthetics are just as important as sound quality. The compact size allows excellent speaker coverage with minimal visual impact, giving greater freedom when designing feature ceilings and architectural details.

Discreet home audio

Ideal as compact left, centre and right (LCR) speakers for more moderate systems, or as surround speakers for media room projects where maintaining a clean, minimalist aesthetic is key. They’re equally at home in bedrooms, home offices, dressing rooms and snug spaces where background music and television audio are required without dominating the room.

Setting expectations

The SL Mikro is designed to deliver excellent background music and TV performance, rather than high-output cinema sound. It offers impressive clarity and detail for its size, making it ideal for everyday listening and flexible multi-room audio applications.

One important consideration: due to its ultra-compact design, the SL Mikro MUST ALWAYS BE PARTNERED WITH A DEDICATED ARTCOUSTIC SUBWOOFER. The subwoofer provides the low-frequency foundation, allowing the Mikro to perform far beyond what its size would suggest and creating a balanced, engaging listening experience.

For designers, the result is simple: more freedom to design beautiful spaces, with premium audio that remains almost invisible.
