THDP has been shaping the hospitality design landscape for 20 years, since its founding in 2005. Created by architect Manuela Mannino and interior designer Nicholas J. Hickson, the studio is renowned for its adaptability and innovation, responding dynamically to the ever-evolving hospitality sector. For THDP, creativity knows no boundaries. “We are not just designers, architects, or concept creators,” they explain. “We are storytellers, crafting immersive experiences that bring unique environments to life. Our approach is driven by curiosity and a deep understanding of spatial storytelling, ensuring that each project is distinctive and memorable.”

What inspired the founding of your company?

Twenty years ago, THDP was founded with a passion for creating meaningful and inspiring hospitality spaces. The journey began with our shared vision, with the aim of blending Italian freedom and creativity with British detailing and precision.

Our first studio project meant us leaving our London home and living and working for 18 months in the Italian Alps on the Pragelato Village Resort. We loved it, not just the refreshing career change but the living in the mountains was simply so cathartic.

Since then the adventure has never stopped, with each new challenge being meet it with the nativity and excitement we enjoyed on our first project. And now, we have just finished we are awaiting the imminent opening of Italy’s largest urban Spa De Montel: Terme Milano, a studio effort over several years. It’s simply been a privilege to work on such an amazing projects during this time. Looking back, we couldn’t have imagined the width and scale of our studio’s success, but we always knew that fostering an openness to adventure, craftsmanship whilst fostering client great relationships would always provide the best Hotels.

What is the core philosophy behind your work?

Our philosophy revolves around authenticity and guest-centric design. Each project is an opportunity to create an experience that evokes emotions and enhances the guest journey. We believe in crafting spaces that reflect a brand’s identity while maintaining a strong connection to their location and cultural heritage.

Is there a particular aspect of your company or projects you’d like to highlight?

THDP is a family-run company with a growing international presence. We operate three studios — two in Italy and one in London — and are proud to work on remarkable projects such as the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura, The Spring House Hotel Rome Vatican (part of Hilton's Tapestry Collection), and the upcoming De Montel Terme Milano amongst others. More news to come such as a new hotel project in Munic, Germany, but we can't say anything just yet.
