Supporting Interior Design with Student Competitions

SBID recognise the time, research and financial cost invested in esteemed university education. The outcomes of our student competition schemes are aimed at increasing the opportunity for aspiring professionals to gain employment from the most prestigious, innovative and creative companies from local, national and global, to established or start-up. As a core value SBID strongly believes in highlighting student activities and the potential that the experience brings to both students and participating companies in facilitating their journey from learning to earning.

We host two annual student competitions designed to include students throughout their training:

Student Competition for Third Year Students and Graduates

Design for Business’ provides a link into industry independence as a professional. Students submit their final year project for a chance to receive a £30,000 cash prize; enabling a student to pay off their debt, establish a business or create their idea for a commercial venture. Design for Business is open to UK students, from 2019 the competition will be open to European students also.

Student Competition for First and Second Year Students

Get Me to the Top’ is a route into the industry, providing mentoring, networking and real-time experience of how the industry operates in preparation for stepping into the commercial world as a design graduate. ‘Get me two the top’  is available to students in the UK, Europe and all recognised participating countries. Entries for the next competition reopen in 2019.

Designed for Business

Our new SBID student competition, Designed for Business, has launched this year 19th April 2018 in collaboration with Be Open. This competition open to all students pursuing the creative industries across the categories of interior design, fashion design, art and design, product design and interior decoration. Students must be in their third or masters year of study and be enrolled at an officially recognised degree-awarding institution throughout the UK.

Get me 2 the Top

Get me 2 the Top is a competition held for students from an interior design course at degree level. Developed to find innovative, talented students, the competition aims to nurture relationships between the country’s finest new recruits and potential employers, locally and nationally, bridging their gap between learning and earning. Working closely with industry partners, the internship scheme will allow students to develop key relationships, giving them the tools and advice they need to kick-start their careers. The winner of this annual design competition benefits from a 3 month internship with a leading design agency, architectural firm or manufacturer.

Watching the stars of the future rise is an ongoing initiative that we have created for the next generation of industry experts.

The knowledge and insights that students learn is immeasurable to their career and employment opportunities. SBID have seen the benefits of previous programmes, as students have obtained employment and developed their skills in the industry and continue to succeed above their peers. The competition is featured on social media, the website, and in the SBID quarterly magazine eSociety.

The winners are announced and presented with a framed certificate at an annual networking ceremony, amongst 150 SBID international guests celebrating interior design, at the House of Lords.
