Reasons to Visit BATIMAT 2019

BATIMAT more than ever is the place to be for industry professionals, offering a wide range of activities to help them prepare today to face the major challenges of tomorrow. With exhibition spaces and talk tracks entirely focused on what’s hot in construction, trade visitors to BATIMAT will find everything they need to make sense of developments in the building sector. With over 1,000 exhibitors registered, coming from every sector of the industry, the show will bring together all the major players.

Featuring alongside the exhibitors’ presentations and the show regulars, there will be a number of unmissable features at this year's event:

1. City of tomorrow

The city of tomorrow is being built today. At the interface between buildings and mobility, the city is evolving and changing, and technological and technical breakthroughs have brought about new interactions which directly impact construction. The industry needs to reinvent itself, and BATIMAT offers visitors the innovative solutions required to make this happen.

2. Understand the expectations of new residents

Users and residents want better lives, and to play a part in the design of their homes. With one special day devoted to the topic, BATIMAT will question players from the Architecture and Construction sectors about this new trend - Wednesday 6 November.

3. Inventing new homes

Housing is reinventing itself and adapting to new forms of use. Primarily a place for us to live, the home is also becoming a place of work. It’s a functional space which evolves over the years to accommodate lifestyle changes. BATIMAT shines the spotlight on these new homes to better understand them.

4. Deciphering the future of construction

Connectivity and new technologies increasingly are core to forms of use. In partnership with Gimélec (the federation of electro-digital companies), BATIMAT launched a major initiative to help professionals with digital transformation and industrialisation. The new area, CONSTRUCTION TECH® has the largest and most comprehensive range of building digitalisation solutions.

5. Wood, material for every challenge

Widely used in construction, wood naturally features strongly at BATIMAT. More generally however the sector is also increasingly promoting renewable and no-waste solutions.

6. Proven renovation and decarbonisation solutions

Reducing the carbon footprint of buildings during both their construction and use is a major environmental challenge for the sector. During the 5-day event BATIMAT will be presenting existing solutions, both with the products and solutions of our exhibitors and through a plethora of highlights.

VitrA announces first UK premiere of Claudio Bellini collaboration at designjunction 2019

Leading bathroom brand VitrA has chosen to premiere Equal, its latest designer collaboration, in the UK for the first time at designjunction 2019. This year VitrA will be showing Equal and Origin, as well as unveiling the latest additions to Plural by Terri Pecora. The new Equal collection by Claudio Bellini makes use of geometric shapes and monochrome tones. Using clean, minimal borders and industrial, metallic accents, Bellini’s designs emulate the structures found in modernist architecture. The collection features a mirror with integrated LED lighting, a selection of storage and washbasin units, and a wall-hung WC. The contemporary and versatile nature of the delicate, structured design makes it ideal for both commercial and residential spaces.

Terri Pecora’s award-winning Plural collection will also be showcased. For this range, Pecora reimagined the washroom as a living space, using smooth, rounded edges and solid woods to emulate furniture usually found in other rooms of the home. The set will feature the free-standing vanity unit and wall-hung WC, paired with Vetro flush plate. VitrA will also be showing the Origin collection of brassware, including a newshowerhead, shower mixer and range of basin mixers. Talk To Me

James Latham and Hi-Macs® cast a positive light on mental illness at designjunction 2019

Two five metre-tall interactive sculptures, designed by multi-award winning British designer, Steuart Padwick will be erected in King’s Cross shortly for this year’s designjunction event (19-22 Sept) as part of London Design Festival.

The giant cuboid figures have been created in support of mental health anti-stigma initiative, Time To Change, and have been skilfully formed using Douglas Fir to convey warmth and humanity, using off-site construction technologies. However, it is the imposing, interactive ‘concrete’ blocks - representing their ‘emotional burdens’ – that truly bring these dramatic, public art spectacles to life.  These cubes have been manufactured from HI-MACS® natural acrylic stone (in colour G555 Steel Concrete), supplied by main UK distributor, James Latham and fabricated by Preston based, We Are Limitless Limited (WALL).

For all visitors to the London Design Festival and designjunction, James Latham is holding a one-day HI-MACS® walk-in workshop on 19th September at their Design Showroom in the Business Design Centre, Islington, just one tube stop away from Kings Cross. Here, visitors can learn more about the product and witness inspirational demonstrations of thermoforming, sublimation and more.

Cosentino City London Celebrates LDF with ‘Carved in Stone’ Installation

Leading Spanish manufacturer of surfaces for architecture and design, Cosentino, is delighted to be celebrating London Design Festival with the ‘Carved in Stone’ installation’. Leading architects were invited to put forward their proposed designs in line with the theme: 'Life on Mars', with five winning entries hand selected by a panel of judges, including members of the Cosentino and Cuellar families.

These entries will be brought to life by craftsmen from Cuellar Stone in Spain, who will carve these intricate sculptures out of blocks of Macael Marble, measuring 500 x 500 x 500mm. Marble has been chosen as the material as it signifies the very beginning of Cosentino. Historically, some of the greatest designers in history have used marble, from Agra's Taj Mahal, London's Marble Arch and Michelangelo's 'David'.

The five marble sculptures will be on show at the Cosentino City London showroom for visitors to admire throughout London Design Festival. The designers will be visiting the showroom during the week to offer visitors a glimpse of the inspirational stories behind their fantastic designs.

Particular attention has been paid to the ergonomics of each piece. The aesthetic intentionally references the past, but the retro styling has been interpreted in a modern manner and incorporates avant-garde technology. The result is a new versatile bathroom collection, which manages to be both contemporary and timeless, in accordance with Giorgio Armani’s well-known design philosophy.

Craig & Rose celebrate the launch of 11 new shades with special colour installation, Colour Way

Craig & Rose marks its evolution from one of the UK’s oldest luxury paint manufacturers to paint protagonists by way of a special colour installation for the 2019 edition of the London Design Fair. To celebrate the launch of 11 new shades, the progressive Scottish brand will unveil a creative structure which nod’s discreetly to this year’s overarching theme of ‘Bauhaus’, whilst honouring the design movement’s modernist principles of ‘honesty’ and ‘simplicity’. The aim of the presentation is to ‘free’ architects and designers, empowering them with clear contemporary colour direction, all suitable for practical adoption. With two immersive areas, the installations take the visitor on a special journey to experience, explore, and develop their own personal relationships with a series of carefully curated combinations.

Adopting this approach, Craig & Rose has commissioned the creative colour agency, Calzada Fox to spearhead the overall concept and lead on art direction. The result of this will be a highly distinctive and interactive space devised to challenge existing perceptions around colour. In addition, East London’s architectural practice Studio Shaw, best known for its original approach, has also been tasked with executing an exciting three dimensional structure amplifying the ideas within.

Design Tokyo is one of Japan’s leading design events and trade show for “marketable” design products, focusing on design products with a clear native market. All items showcased must pass a screening process by a panel of leading designers and stylists in order to be displayed at the fair; for this reason, Design Tokyo has become a popular choice for key buyers looking for fresh Japanese trends. The show attracts key buyers coming in flocks to find new vendors and see what’s fresh in the design and lifestyle fields, providing the opportunity for new products to enter the design conscious market of Japan.

Clerkenwell Design Week Panaz

Young designer at Panaz uses new collection to address sustainability issues

Panaz' young designer Simon Attard will launch his debut collection Underground at Clerkenwell Design Week on an industry first, environmentally responsible recycled contract fabric, using this unique opportunity to raise awareness of environmental issues facing the planet today.

The Underground collection takes inspiration from graffiti and the street art of 1970’s and 80’s New York, right through to that seen on our city streets today.  Fusing this design with the latest flame retardant, recycled fabric innovation from Panaz, they have created an industry first; a truly sustainable and environmentally responsible product, both in message and in substance.

The designs are current, cool and contemporary, and the product they are combined into is intrinsically stylish with great environmental credentials.  Named Underground, this collection reflects designs ordinarily associated with counter culture and misguidance, and in name, subtly references the increasingly disposable society and waste issues that we deal with every day, on our streets, underground in landfill, and in our oceans.

Arper presents its own interpretation of contemporary trends

Once again anticipating and seizing the evolution of everyday life and workspaces, Arper pursued a new direction embodied in their Soft(er) concept. Living in the digital era that demands our constant attention, we have never been more connected, on the move, going faster. That is why Arper felt the need to offset this overexposure to stimuli that leads us to a frenzied lifestyle, with the pursuit of people, places and objects that keep us balanced. In need of stability, softness, space, more air, and soft - or rather Soft(er) - objects. In our everyday interactions with the surrounding environment, Arper recognise that the quality of space has an impact on everything, from health to productivity, creativity to collaboration, and so on; as we look for places that can offer us comfort, authenticity, care, inspiration. This softer approach to living, learning, and working has framed their collections, introducing products which act as manifestations of essential human values – connection, sensitivity, comfort and ease.

Arper’s exhibition space at the Salone interprets the Soft(er) theme by using soft materials such as fabrics, transparent materials that allow light to illuminate spaces in a natural way, and streamlined, welcoming shapes. The project was designed by the MAIO creative team, under the artistic direction of Lievore Altherr and styling by Leandro Favaloro, featuring Arper’s new collections for 2019; Paravan Mood designed by Lievore Altherr and Saul design by Jean-Marie Massaud.

Dekton by Cosentino x Benjamin Hubert - RAYTRACE Installation

The global leader in the production and distribution of innovative surfaces for architecture and design, the Cosentino Group, was delighted to collaborate with British designer Benjamin Hubert of LAYER design studio on the immersive RAYTRACE installation at Milan Design Week 2019. The spectacular architectural installation showcased Cosentino’s latest launch, the game changing 4mm Dekton® Slim surface, bringing it to life with light in this immersive experience.

Set within the dark, atmospheric tunnels of Ventura Centrale, RAYTRACE comprised of a 25-metre long and 6-metre high triangular passage made using Dekton® Slim ultra-compact surfaces. These surfaces, seemingly balanced on a single edge, created a huge passageway in which visitors could walk under. A mesmerising pattern was created by 29 glass spheres and 87 LED lights, created by the UK’s leading art lighting specialists, TM Lighting, whilst two mirrors at both ends of the vault created the illusion of infinite space. RAYTRACE used Dekton® Slim, Cosentino’s latest surfacing launch with a thickness of only 4mm. Slim combines the durability and technology of Dekton® in a thinner and lighter format, making it one of the most innovative and lightweight surfaces on the market, perfect for wall cladding.

Elite Stone design with luxurious raw materials

The Elite Stone exhibition used ample spaces characterised by neutral colours, interrupted here and there by colour points and contrasting patterns. The display of precious materials included Calacatta Borghini, Coral Black Onyx, White Onyx, Sahara Noir, representing the most superior selection of stone made in Italy with the insert of metals for varying finishes. The elegant and sophisticated atmosphere was inspired by the Lobby of luxury hotels around the world to generate a contemporary and cosmopolitan atmosphere. The external architecture of the stand focuses attention on the statue in Statuary, by the famous artist Stefano Graziani, which invites you to enter and discover the Elite Stone world.

150 square meters divided into unique areas that invited the visitor into an engaging and unforgettable experience, from the Lobby and the Living area, to the SPA & Bathroom section. The wall coverings and wall art panels on the stand represent the new Sauvage Collection designed by Tetyana Kovalenko which is a recurring element of the stand, so much so that it has become the common thread that accompanies the visitor in the discovery of every single space, encapsulating the essence of elegance in design throughout.

The “ROYAL PALACE” Fountain by iDOGI; a ‘world first’ in luxury interior design

Presenting a monumental fountain in precious crystal and artistic glass, where light, water and colours merge in a fairy tale choreography. After the great success of the extraordinary light balustrade presented at last year's edition, this year iDOGI® was poised to impress again, this time with a spectacular invention for the interiors of the world's most luxurious residences. The unique and precious work have been designed and created to enhance the magnificence of the most exclusive salons.

The majestic creation, entirely hand-made with thousands of parts in crystal and artistic glass, gave the public an unprecedented show of plays on light and water which culminated in a central temple, and highest expression of the purest classicism. As well as the Fountain, iDOGI® presented many other splendid new works, confirming an always-lively creative activity at the disposal of designers and VIP customers: elegant walls with crystal columns, back-lit boiseries, giant chandeliers, princely balustrades, chairs and sumptuous light tables.

Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors unveils latest luxury furniture collections

A showcase welcomes visitors revealing to them the mood of the collection: the most authentic Roberto Cavalli style is displayed in the furniture selection showing captivating and sensual shapes and textures, this season made softer and more delicate through the light colour palette, dominated by pink shades juxtaposed to the ivory white of the walls covered with silk in a giraffe pattern.

The path of discovery of the new collection continues with a wide living area where neutral tones meet the shimmering lights of marbles and metallic details, while two bedrooms unveil the duality of the brand – elegant and refined with ivory and dove gray shades, bolder and more audacious with the combination of pink and black. The new collections will be available exclusively in the UK through Kings of Chelsea later this year.

Celebrating not only our masterworks and original installations, this year we proudly present a unique collaboration with world-renowned glass designer, Rony Plesl, introducing another dimension
in the world of lighting. A set of lamps levitating freely in the air. There is something rebellious about it, underlined by independence and freedom.

USM interior collections respond to the merging of home and work lifestyles

Where is the boundary between home and work today? Over the past year USM and UNStudio have been looking for it. From building absurd domestic rooms for the PlayGround at Salone del Mobile in Milan to building scenarios at the WorkHouse in Berlin, they've identified the drivers which are changing the way people work and live today, in order to paint a clearer picture of the future. Surprisingly, few people want to keep home and work separate. Work is more fun when we choose where to carry it out – it gives us freedom and self-determination. As such a third space is emerging between home and work - co-workspaces, cafes, hotel lobbies and libraries - where we work collectively alongside people we don’t know.

While diverse in design, what these third spaces share is community. Being together with others is just as important as getting the job done. The furnishings relax us and the ability to move between a variety of zones keeps us motivated and engaged. In many ways these feel more like spaces of leisure; undetermined and open to interpretation. More like a public square than an office or a living room.
