A Theme that Echoes Maison&Objet's DNA: Past Reveals Future

For over thirty years, Maison & Objet has cultivated a unique identity: serving as a meeting point between the world of fine craftsmanship and contemporary design. In January 2026, the trade fair returns to its roots with a powerful and inspiring theme.

Design draws strength from its origins to rise even higher. At the crossroads of the raw materials and contemporary form, a calm strength reveals itself. Furniture is no longer a mere series of objects: it becomes an extension of a skill, a gesture, a memory.

What emanates from it goes beyond aesthetics: it's an aura, a breath, a trace of the past carried into the future. Each creation is part of a continuum, a slow and embodied transformation Maison&Objet highlights a design imbued with soul, where every piece of furniture bears the mark of a story in the making.

4 Expressions of the Theme Past Reveals Future

To delve deeper into this theme, the trend forecasting agency GOODMOODS presents a sensory and forward-looking interpretation through four manifestos that outline possible trajectories for contemporary design.

Metamorphosis:
Upcycling becomes a true creative chemistry, where anything can be transformed, recomposed, and enhanced.

Mutation:
The fusion of organic materials, ancestral techniques, and technological innovation inspires new forms of hybridization.

Recomposed Baroque:
Artisanal craftsmanship revisits the opulence and theatricality of the Baroque with contemporary restraint and unexpected twists.

Neo-Folklore:
Patterns, rituals, and local narratives are reimagined through new materials and digital tools.

These four directions enrich the overall vision of this edition enriching the narratives of exhibitions, curated journeys, and the What’s New? presentations. They offer a rich framework for interpreting and guiding creators and brands toward formal, technical, or poetic expressions that echo the theme Past Reveals Future.

An Edition Rich in Experiences and Inspiration

Designer of the Year 2026 - Harry Nuriev (Crosby Studios)

This edition honors Harry Nuriev, visionary designer and founder of Crosby Studios, recognized by The New York Times Magazine as one of the pioneering voices of contemporary minimalism. Based between New York and Paris, Harry Nuriev explores the intersection of design, art, and craftsmanship through a singular approach: Transformism. Rather than creating from scratch, he chooses to transform what already exists, giving objects a second life, amplifying their essence and memory.

His prestigious collaborations, from the Mobilier National to the Louvre, from Balenciaga to Baccarat, reflect a transversal perspective and a unique ability to build bridges between institutions, brands, and audiences.

For Maison&Objet 2026, he is designing a new, immersive scenography, conceived as a visual and sensory meditation on the power of design to transform our perception of everyday life.

'Each year, when we select a personality for the Designer of the Year Award, the committee looks for someone who embodies the spirit of the times, someone we believe will leave a lasting mark on design. Harry Nuriev’s work is singular, rooted in the present. His practice lies at the crossroads of art and design, driven by the sensitivity of a designer who questions the overabundance of objects in which we live. A dilemma to which he responds with what he calls his 'Transformism Manifesto'. Harry is also a cosmopolitan creator who has chosen Paris as his home base, following in the footsteps of great figures who enriched the Parisian art and cultural scene. A touch of Diaghilev for the Russian soul, and a bit of Scott Fitzgerald for the extravagance' - Franck Millot, Director of Partnerships and Special Events.

What's New? In Decor by Elizabeth Leriche

As a scenographer and trend-setter, Elizabeth Leriche presents an immersive and emotionally resonant journey, where each installation highlights the exhibitors’ products while creating a dialogue between past and future.

From Antiquity to Art Deco, from primitive forms to contemporary daring, the exhibition brings to light a shared memory of the decorative arts, reinterpreted to inspire the invention of new aesthetics. Between tradition and experimentation, it reveals how the future of design is always born from the traces left by the past.

What's New? In Retail by François Delclaux

A manifesto of contemporary retail, where physical commerce reasserts its power to reinvent itself. Inspired by the theme Past Reveals Future, this installation explores the resonances between tradition and innovation. To work with a material is to enter a temporal conversation, to make resonate what once was, while inscribing what is yet to come. This paleo-futuristic exploration highlights four materials at the very heart of today’s creative expression: stone, wood, glass, and metal, whether in their physical forms or their representations. The journey is conceived as a sensory experience, restoring the point of sale as a living, inspiring space.

What's New? In Hospitality by Rudy Guénaire

Co-founder and artistic director of the PNY restaurant chain, Rudy Guénaire launched Night Flight in 2021, his creative studio dedicated to design and interior architecture. His projects, both narrative and immersive, stand out for their poetic and cinematic quality, inviting audiences to experience something truly unique.

With Suite 2046, Rudy Guénaire reinvented hospitality as a total experience. For Maison&Objet, he will present a room that is rooted in the past, yet futuristic and dreamlike accompanied by a manifesto on the codes of tomorrow’s hospitality. A reflection on the art of bathing will enrich his installation, transforming a daily ritual into a founding ceremony.

Decorex x Natasha Mann

Renowned decorative artist, Natasha Mann has been chosen as this year’s creative collaboration for Decorex. Her distinctive geometric pattern design with floral details, features beautiful, gilded elements, reflecting the architecture of the glass canopy roof of Olympia Events. Her designs will be seen throughout the show branding and promotional materials including, website, social media and across the show floor.

A former Decorex Making Spaces artisan, Natasha uses traditional techniques to craft custom interior pieces and fine artworks. Her creations are influenced by global decorative art traditions, with a particular emphasis on Moroccan architectural painting on wood. She honed her skills in this specific form of Moroccan decorative painting through a year-long apprenticeship with a master artist in Fez.

All her pieces are crafted from natural materials, using hand-ground pigments mixed with egg tempera and 24-carat gold leaf. The geometric designs are hand-drawn using a compass and ruler. Natasha’s work includes decorative paintings for interiors, such as panels, murals, and ceiling designs; small decorative objects, such as boxes and lamps; and individual framed paintings and drawings.

Maison&Objet

Amélie Pichard, Artistic Director of the September 2025 Edition

To embody this September edition, marked by renewal, Maison&Objet has entrusted its artistic direction to Amélie Pichard. A bold and visionary creator, she has made a name for herself with a distinctive style that blends craftsmanship, a playful reinterpretation of conventions, and a commitment to more responsible fashion.

Amélie Pichard brings an open-minded and eclectic vision of design, breaking free from conventions to offer an approach where objects become manifestos of creativity and independence. Balancing energy and intimacy, this invitation showcases a unique object: a teapot-house, or a house-teapot, still in the making.

The poster, positioned between imagination and reality, symbolizes the dialogue between craftsmanship and artificial intelligence, reflecting the essence of Amélie Pichard’s boundary-breaking vision of home. The result of a collaboration between ceramicist Blumen and AI, this piece questions contemporary creation, the blurring of disciplines, and the materialization of ideas. A suspended sketch, ready to take shape and inhabit the space.

Amélie Pichard is one of fashion’s most subversive and trailblazing minds—unclassifiable and radical. A true researcher in creation, she moves across disciplines, disrupts conventions, and embraces the unexpected, constantly exploring alternatives to how we consume and create. From her iconic bags to her boutiques designed as immersive experiences, she has always seen fashion as a playground where irony and commitment collide. Today, her universe extends far beyond accessories, unfolding in multiple forms—from curating to consulting, from artistic collaborations to reimagining the way we live and create. Free-spirited and uncompromising, she continues to explore territories where aesthetics and meaning intersect, where the unexpected reigns, and where creation becomes a statement.

A Conversation with Amélie Pichard

Amélie Pichard is an avant-garde and unclassifiable designer who has always challenged the conventions of fashion, advocating for a new way of producing and consuming. After making a lasting impact with engaged collaborations, such as her vegan material collection with Pamela Anderson, she is now choosing to explore new forms of creation.

The theme of renewal is at the heart of this edition. What does it evoke for you?
I am very sensitive to the world around me, and the last fifteen years have been marked by major upheavals. Instead of clinging to past markers, I’ve chosen to explore new models, follow my instincts, and create my own rules. This dynamic has pushed me to break boundaries in my world by launching Bureau Synthétique, my creative studio, to go where I was least expected.

You embody this bold new generation. What message would you like to convey to young creators?
As they say: Be yourself, everyone else is already taken. Today, it’s hard not to compare ourselves to others, especially through social media, but we need to learn to trust ourselves and cultivate our uniqueness.

The September edition highlights the idea of breaking boundaries. How does this notion resonate with your creative approach?
I’ve never liked labeling people. When I collaborated with Pamela Anderson, I was suddenly presented as a vegan designer, even though I wasn’t. The collection was, but not me. I’ve always wanted to give people the freedom to choose. Breaking down barriers is also about this: breaking preconceived boxes and creating bridges. I love combining tradition and innovation, craftsmanship and new technologies, as I did with Maison&Objet by integrating artificial intelligence into the creation process of the fair’s poster.

Was there a particular object that inspired you to design the fair’s poster? Can you tell us its story?
Last October, while visiting an exhibition, I had a real crush on a ceramic piece. I immediately contacted its creator on Instagram to congratulate her and have a chat. When Maison&Objet entrusted me with designing the poster, I wanted to use that object as a starting point. However, it had already been sold... Instead of giving up, we turned to artificial intelligence to create a new version, in the style of an exquisite corpse. The goal was to show that tradition and innovation are not incompatible, but complementary.

The poster for this edition plays with the concept of a double reading with “amelie pichard invites you to come to the show.” Can you tell us more about this message and the artistic direction that inspired it?
There are multiple interpretations of this poster, with several important pieces of information. I’ve always liked the slightly old-fashioned nature of the phrase “I invite you to the living room,” which you hear in many families after a meal. So I wanted to play with that double meaning once again. As for “This is not (yet) a teapot,” to follow through with the concept, Blumen, the ceramist who created this piece, will reinterpret the AI work and make this teapot for the fair in September, and it will be auctioned at the show. In the meantime, “I invite you to come to the show… Maison&Objet.”
