Main features

Continuity

Architects are provided the possibility of matching interior walls and ceilings with the soffit, creating a feeling of continuity both inside and out. They can also match the interior floor with interior walls and ceilings -as well as with the furniture-, creating a feeling of continuity within the same space.

Natural wood

  • Provides warmth and comfort to spaces.
  • Contributes to improving the well-being of those admitted to hospitals, and of health personnel.
  • Humanizes spaces (especially where we don’t like to be…).
  • Offers a great diversity of design options (range of wood species) and coordinates adequately with all types of materials (coexists harmoniously).
  • Wood for all types of coatings and applications -versatility-, ensuring perfect aesthetic coordination: floors, walls, ceilings, doors, furniture, wet areas and areas in contact with water, areas high traffic, soffits, etc.
  • Wood is a noble material, which brings prestige and increases the status of the project.
  • Wood to design projects that convey the quality of the service offered by the client.

Technology

PARKLEX PRODEMA’s own technology that contributes to improving the performance of the wood. Natural wood where the use of wood is not considered suitable.

Sustainable raw materials

With PARKLEX PRODEMA’s products, raw forest materials are an important part of the product. Aware of the importance that forest masses have for development of life on the planet, and to limit the greenhouse effect, we believe in purchasing sustainable forest products. Maintaining forests with controlled, appropriate felling helps to maintain biodiversity and the recovery capacity of the forests themselves.

In addition to environmental benefits, purchasing certified products has economic and social benefits, since it guarantees dignified social and labour conditions for the employees of the forestry management companies and other companies farther down the chain. In many cases, it is also a huge boon to revitalise rural areas.

Zero environmental impact

The life cycle of an HPL is more than thirty (30) years. During all this time, and thanks to the surface composition of the board, that protects the wood, the finish of our product is stable and does not need any maintenance, sanding, varnishing, painting or any type of arrangement. Our materials do not require any type of chemical product to fix or clean them, so environmental impact in this regard is zero.

Their products

NATURFLOOR-W – Maintenance-free natural wood flooring for interiors

NATURFLOOR-W is a maintenance-free floor for indoor spaces. Designed specifically for areas with heavy traffic, like hotels, offices, museums, airports, and shops, it is also suitable for residential applications and can be installed over radiant flooring.

The anti-moisture treatment on the surface, along with the birch plywood (9-layer marine birch plywood) and counterbalance with HPL barrier, applicable to all woods and finishes, means that NATURFLOOR-W can be installed in areas frequently in contact with water. There is an option to specify even better anti-slip resistance.

This is a durable and sustainable product (FSC), 100% water-resistant, and with an AC6 score on wear resistance and Grade-4 scratch resistance. This makes it an ideal material for commercial spaces with heavy traffic.

Hospital of Valdecilla (Valdecilla | Spain)

Health

To certify our NATURFLOOR-W product, we use the Indoor Advantage Air Gold Certificate, since this certificate is well-known for floors around the world. It is based on controlling the quality of the air within and around buildings and structures, especially in terms of the health and comfort of the building’s occupants. When we speak of air quality, we must speak of VOC emissions (Volatile Organic Compound), meaning the volatile organic components that the product emits.

This document certifies that NATURFLOOR-W has low VOC emissions with the indoor air quality standard (IAQ). From a sustainable construction perspective, these products are candidates for obtaining LEED credits in the Indoor Air Quality section.

Cleaning and desinfection

  • Dirt does not stick easily to the surface of the NATURFLOOR-W boards. However, if the surface becomes dirty it can be cleaned with lukewarm water mixed with liquid detergent, using a soft cloth and never rubbing the surface dry.
  • For persistent stains, conventional commercial bleaches can be used, always diluted in the concentrations recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Never use detergents containing abrasive particles.
  • Cloths, sponges or paper with abrasive agents should never be used as they can damage the surface.
  • Do not use excess water, or leave puddles of water on the floor.
  • Cleaning with pressurized water machines is not allowed.
  • It is always recommended to carry out a cleaning test on a small area of the material.
  • The use of solvents and chemical cleaning products must always be carried out respecting the corresponding safety and hygiene rules.
  • There is a list of commercial products that can be used. For more details, consult the PARKLEX PRODEMA Technical Department.

Durability

The finish of our interior floor product is stable with minimal evolution over time. It does not need any varnish or paint to remain just like the very first day. The surface composition of the boards protects the product from moisture, wear, scratching, blows, marks from heels and pets, fading from sunlight, and stains, eliminating the need for any later treatment. Thanks to its durability, no type of maintenance is required.

The life cycle of an HPL is more than thirty (30) years. This makes our engineered hardwood floor a product with structural durability of more than thirty years. The structural durability of natural wood is less.

This is a durable and sustainable product (FSC), 100% water-resistant (NATURFLOOR-W can be installed in areas frequently in contact with water), and with an AC6 score on wear resistance and Grade-4 scratch resistance. This makes it an ideal material for commercial spaces with heavy traffic.

NATURHARDPANEL-W – Maintenance-free natural wood panel for interior walls and ceilings

Natural wood that is extremely moisture- and fire-resistant, for interior walls and ceilings.

Thanks to the technical leak-tightness and moisture-resistance properties of the natural wood veneer, NATURHARDPANEL-W brings a feeling of special warmth to indoor areas in frequent contact with water. It is also a high resistance covering for commercial spaces.

It has been designed for high-traffic areas such as hospitals, hotels, offices, museums, or institutional buildings.

Anti-bacterial surface protection

NATURHARDPANEL-W contains silver ions, a naturally antibacterial element that helps to eliminate 99.9% of surface bacteria (Staphilococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli) within 24 hours.

PARKLEX PRODEMA use a technology that impregnates the natural timber veneer with a specific anti-bacteria overlay. This overlay lasts for the whole life of the panel; therefore, the anti-bacterial features are permanent and require no additional treatment (Tests according to ISO 22196:2007 / JIS Z 2801:2010).

The antibacterial properties of our panels have been verified by independent regulators, with tests carried out to certify their effectiveness in eliminating 99.9% of surface bacteria.

Besides, a special resin incorporated into our production process protects our panels against damage from household, commercial and alcohol-based cleaning products, as long as PARKLEX PRODEMA standard cleaning and maintenance recommendations are followed.

The result is a bio-based, extraordinarily soft leather that engages your senses. In the spirit of full transparency, this leather achieved Declare status and is LBC Red List Free.

Compelling Pull-Up

When Mira is stretched or pulled, the color migrates and becomes lighter in the pulled areas, exhibiting signs of energy and life in each hide. It’s a marvelous display of nature’s beauty and authenticity, with prominent natural and unique markings, such as neck wrinkles and striations. Varied degrees of mottling add to the depth and layers of color. An evolved palette of high-impact, organic colors tap into our optimism and inspiration for our most treasured spaces.

Intriguing, Irresistible Softness

Mira is finished with a combination of transparent waxes and oils, which highlights the natural grain and accentuates its exceptional softness. Alluringly supple and inviting, you’ll immediately discern Mira’s rich, full-bodied hand-feel.

Founder of Ledbury Studio Charlie Smallbone has stepped back in time for his latest project, creating the beautiful Stroud Kitchen for the owners of a 16th century Cotswolds home. The results speak for themselves – but the quirks of a home built when the first Queen Elizabeth was on the throne nonetheless provided Charlie and his team with a few challenges. Here he talks us through the project.

Why did your clients first approach Ledbury Studio?

Our clients sought us out because they wanted a kitchen that would be in sympathy with the age of the house but that also had a contemporary look. Our projects range from Georgian townhouses to warehouse conversions, so we’re accustomed to striking this balance with many of our kitchens. This is why the owners came to us the minute they’d exchanged on the house.

This is an unusual house, what challenges did it pose?

The original kitchen had a small scullery attached. We knocked through the dividing wall to create one large space for cooking, eating and entertaining. However, the age of the property meant that none of the walls were straight and there were a lot of original features to account for. Plus, the low windows and doors, original brickwork and huge fireplace all had to work in harmony with the kitchen furniture.

How did the layout come together?

We designed the island as the main working area and this houses the hob, prep space and plenty of storage, as well as a breakfast bar. As you stand behind the island, you can see a central dividing wall ahead, which is where the oven housing is situated (see image 4). The sink is in the corner and the fridge-freezer is on the other side of the dividing wall, next to the door to the garden (see image 5). At the other end of the island there are steps down to the utility room and a door into the dining room. Although it’s one large space, there are clearly defined zones of activity in the kitchen

What unites the different elements of the kitchen?

We used a range of finishes so that the various elements of the kitchen have their own identity. However, there is also a unifying theme: they are all designed to look like pieces of furniture. From the island to the oven housing, the fridge-freezer and wine storage, and the sink area – each resembles a bespoke freestanding piece. These include some clever design ideas: for example, to hide the electricity meters, we designed a shallow-depth cupboard (see image 6) that we’ve turned into a feature as a bar area with aged brass shelving above.

Can you talk us through some of the beautiful materials you used?

The ‘Choppy Wood’ carving on the back of the island cupboards and meter cupboard is a signature Ledbury Studio finish. It’s created by hand-carving stained oak to form a textured surface that chimes well with the unevenness of the dark wooden beams in the room.

For the oven housing and fridge-freezer, we selected a patinated copper. The oven housing is visible from the breakfast bar, and there is a small drinks area next to the fridge (see image 7), so both pieces needed to be decorative. However, they are also practical: there is pan storage below the ovens and a large breakfast cupboard and larder sits alongside the fridge-freezer and wine storage (see image 13).

Adding contrast to the dark oak furniture, the sink area is in white-painted oak, while the worktops are Stone Italiana Ambra quartz, an excellent hardwearing choice for the working areas of the kitchen.

And the finishing touches?

To add some glamour, the sides of the island are in Verdigris copper, which ties in beautifully with the oven and fridge-freezer housing. Meanwhile, the worktop on the island is edged in aged brass (see image 9), mirroring the handles used throughout. Finally, possibly my favourite feature, is the aged brass and oak screen (see image 10) that sits beside the stairs to the utility room. It’s for safety, but who says it can’t be a sculptural piece at the same time? Overall, I think the kitchen looks like it has always been there, which was what we intended, but it also adds a large dose of contemporary wow factor!

Demonstrating the unsurpassed versatility of its flooring, Karndean Designflooring has given CoVault’s Glasgow head office a unique focal point that has returned the elegance and drama to a once neglected historic city centre building.

The Category B listed building in Bath Street, formerly the residence of a previous Lord Provost, convener of Glasgow City Council, has been restored to its former glory and is now home to CoVault’s head office and a contemporary workspace which provides a one-stop-shop for local entrepreneurs and growing businesses.

Fleur Carson, commercial sales director at Karndean Designflooring, said: “Hybrid working has become the new standard in many industries. By converting unused properties into flexible co-working spaces, we can not only revitalise our city centres but also benefit from the opportunity to work in new and collaborative ways.

“While it’s important to innovate to ensure a successful future, it’s also key to pay homage to the history of these protected buildings. Our designs are inspired by natural materials and manufactured with the latest cutting edge technology, therefore offering characterful floors that are architecturally sympathetic yet eminently practical for busy modern life.”

Making the most of the large open plan space whilst keeping the décor appropriate to the age of the building, the interior has been visually divided into activity zones using complementary flooring patterns and statement wall treatments, with comfortable furniture arranged into intimate hubs.

Inspired by boutique hospitality venues, the interior combines the sophistication of traditional style with the very best of contemporary design, featuring a neutral colour scheme in warm whites and greys with interesting pops of bold colours, a blend of cosy tactile materials and edgy soft furnishing and wallpaper designs. The floor features a timeless oak parquet design and a geometric tiled pattern inspired by grand Victorian villas. In the centre of the room, a bespoke focal point has been created with a hand-cut pattern in a selection of stone designs.

Victoria Scott, project manager at CoVault, explained: “The history of the building was an important consideration when specifying the flooring. The rear of the building, which now houses CoVault’s head office is believed to have been the ballroom. So, when we chose the floor design we knew it was important that this complemented the period of the property and also injected some grandeur back into the outdated space.

“I was keen to work with local businesses, manufacturers and craftspeople to minimise the carbon footprint of the project. Glasgow designers Timorous Beasties supplied the distinctive wallpaper and fabrics,

while the semi-circular booths were created in Falkirk and the antique pieces of furniture sourced locally and refinished here in Glasgow.

“The custom cut central flooring feature was designed to echo the luxurious previous life of this room. It sits beautifully under the domed copula, which is itself a thing of beauty as well as an engineering marvel. The amalgamation of all the different patterns, textures, and finishes has pulled the space together beautifully and given it a welcoming ‘home from home’ atmosphere. The initial wow factor really doesn’t wear thin when people come into the space for the first time.”

Designed to replicate the characteristics and beauty of natural materials but without any of the drawbacks that come with installing and maintaining the real thing, Karndean Designflooring offers a wide range of wood, stone and abstract designs, enabling designers to create unique floors that stand out for all the right reasons. With the ability to specify hand-cut bespoke designs, there are endless possibilities for a fully customised floor.

Available from 1st November, the new Opus abstract collection from the UK’s market leader in luxury vinyl flooring Karndean Designflooring is designed to offer complete creative freedom to architects and interior designers looking to make a statement with a unique floor.

Revolutionising its abstract portfolio, the new Opus abstracts capsule collection introduces 22 new colourways in a range of tones, textures and sizes inspired by traditional trends from the Italian Renaissance, including natural stone, textiles and man-made materials.

The designs include organic pigments with a textile base, terrazzo from the Adriatic coast and stucco reimagined for the 21st Century as well as distinctive stencilled and abstract visuals on natural stone bases and timeless poured and speckled concretes.

Designed to bring impact to a range of settings including hospitality, retail and community living schemes, the new designs can be paired with existing wood planks and stone tiles from the Opus range to create imaginative bold bespoke floors that are intriguing and impactful. The collection offers ample opportunities to create visual movement with areas of pattern in perfect symmetry or offset designs for a disjointed uniformity that takes the concept of abstract flooring to a whole new level.

“We’ve long championed flooring without bounds when it comes to creating impressive designs that engage and provoke a reaction,” explains Fleur Carson, commercial sales director at Karndean Designflooring.

She said: “Design is a journey and we see it as our mission to design materials that support this with endless possibilities, fuelling creativity and promoting individuality. The new Opus abstract collection offers total freedom to curate designs that are truly unique.

“We’re proud of the craftmanship of our product designers and what has been achieved by creating such detailed textures and textiles. Replication of natural wood and stone designs has always been a fundamental part of what we do and we wanted to expand these boundaries to open up new territory and opportunities for design. We’re excited to see how designers will use our new portfolio to let their imaginations fly.”

Karndean’s new Opus abstract designs feature an R10 slip rating and 0.55mm wear layer, making these suitable for a wide range of residential and commercial settings. Naturally warmer and softer underfoot than real wood and stone, Karndean flooring is also compatible with underfloor heating systems and is easier to keep hygienically clean, requiring no resealing or resurfacing. For enhanced acoustics, Karndean’s gluedown designs can be installed over Versilay InstaShield to achieve impact sound reduction of 21dB.

Onirika is a collection that unites the poetic and unique beauty of stones harnessed by Dekton® technology, just as those dreams where we observe and vaguely feel in control but only the deepest part of the mind truly understands. The collection is named in honour of the lavish inspiration of the two worlds conveyed in marbled colours to captivate the eyes and bring to any space a feeling that is understood but cannot explained.

Ambiences Onirika Awake

“When working with product development team, we realized we’re not attempting to mimic any existing natural stone. With Dekton technology, we can create our own colours and structures, bringing to life something that is unique, beautiful and irreplaceable. The purpose of Onirika is to showcase the versatility of Dekton. We want all designers, architects, and people around the world to see that the product is not only a book matched worktop with a waterfall, but can also be used on walls, ceilings, facades, outdoor spaces, and more”, says Nina Magon.

Siminetti has announced a partnership with Plastiks, whose mission is to connect people around the world to fight global plastic pollution. Plastiks is a recovery-guarantee marketplace that enables sponsorship of projects in a new initiative to help reduce plastic waste in the environment. In line with its ethos to produce products that are sustainable and natural, Siminetti, is working with Plastiks to prevent plastic waste from invading the oceans, while improving the quality of life of local communities involved in collecting plastic.

Siminetti works with the world’s leading interior designers, architects and private individuals to offer Freshwater and Saltwater Mother of Pearl luxury mosaics and decorative panels in a range of colours, styles and patterns. Their Saltwater pearl is sourced from Pacific communities who depend on sustainable relationships with ocean lagoons; the shells are a bi-product of the food and pearl industry, which Siminetti sources directly, using shells that would otherwise be discarded.

Under the Plastiks initiative, for every m2 of Siminetti product sold, a kilo of plastic will be recovered from the ocean, which provides communities with additional income, while creating a circular economy model, around recycling the ocean harvested waste and upcycling it into new products.

Plastiks launched earlier this year as the world’s first utility NFT dedicated to revolutionising the fight against plastic waste. Each NFT created uses data to certify that a corresponding amount of plastic has been recovered, thus ensuring that it does not end up in the environment.

About the project

Siminetti has chosen, via Plastiks, to specifically support the Second Life project; a social enterprise in Southern Thailand that teams up with coastal communities to collect plastic waste from the sea. The objective is to provide those communities with additional income, while creating a circular economy model, around recycling the ocean harvested waste and upcycling it into new products. It’s known that plastic can have many lives beyond the single use given to it and that’s the goal of Second Life project, which aims to maximise social impact by engaging in geographies where waste infrastructure is underdeveloped.

All of these environmentally beneficial investments are showcased using Plastiks’ Sustainability Dashboard, a real time view of plastic recovery that clients can view via the Siminetti website. Clients will receive a certificate that provides information about the amount of plastics recovered by the project on their behalf.

Simon Powell, CEO of Siminetti, said: ‘Our collaboration with Plastiks represents an additional and powerful step in our joint goals of sustainability and regeneration. In conjunction with Plastiks and our chosen project, Second Life, we have a unique opportunity to reveal the value of plastic, share this with our clients and together make a direct impact in the effort to stop ocean plastic pollution.

The NFTs allow our clients to directly contribute to the global fight against plastic waste and improve the lives of the people on the ground. I am immensely proud that Siminetti is able to work with these groups through this fantastic project’.

Andre Vanyi-Robin, CEO of Plastiks, said, ‘We’re delighted that Siminetti has chosen Plastiks to help it lead the way in sustainable living and plastic recovery. We hope to expand our network of companies across the globe who are dedicated to reducing the amount of single-use plastic ending up in the environment, while enabling them to demonstrate to their stakeholders that they are fully committed to tracking, measuring and fighting plastic waste’.

Siminetti is committed to the climate action agenda and this initiative with Plastisks allows them to address plastic pollution as part of their sustainability journey. The company will now have its positive footprint recorded and openly available in the marketplace, to be shared with its customers and the global community.

About Siminetti

Siminetti was founded in 2010 and works with some of the world’s leading designers, architects and private individuals to offer freshwater and saltwater pearl, mosaics and decorative panels in a range of colours, styles and patterns. Dulux is celebrating two decades of Colour of the Year and has just launched its colour for 2023: Wild WonderTM  – and four complementary, versatile colour palettes that can be used to create stunning spaces across all sectors.

Wild WonderTM – a soft gold with hints of green inspired by fresh seed pods and harvest grain – is Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2023. Its upbeat glow connects us with nature, creating a sense of energy and positivity.

As people search for support, connection, inspiration and balance in the world today, they’re diving into the wonders of the natural world to find it. Extensive research conducted by Dulux colour experts and international design professionals found that even with so many challenges ahead, there was hope at the heart of global social, design and consumer trends.

Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director of Dulux UK, says: “Our relationship with the natural world feels more precious and precarious than ever. As well as understanding the value of nature more keenly, with climate change becoming a reality for all of us, we also feel the urgency of reconnecting with nature and the necessity of working with rather than against it.

“The earth and its materials have been inspiring humanity for centuries. Now is the time to put them centre stage and bring the outside, in.

“We’re re-evaluating our relationship with nature and sensing the importance of learning from it not just about it. Were understanding afresh that nature is the source of everything, bringing us solace, inspiration, materials and a myriad of blueprints for living. That’s why, this year, we’ve put the wonder of nature at the heart of our colour story.”

“Wild WonderTM speaks to us in a language we instinctively understand,” says Heleen van Gent, Creative Director of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Centre, which chooses the colour. “Nature is what inspires us and makes us feel better in our lives and in our homes. That’s why, for the first time in 20 years, our entire colour palette is inspired by the rhythms of nature.”

The name Wild WonderTM was created on the basis that ‘wild’ conjures up the freedom of nature and ‘wonder’ conveys the natural magic we see all around us. Wild WonderTM is a positive, natural tone that, by connecting us with the natural world, can help us feel better in our homes.

Four decorative paint colour palettes have been designed around Wild WonderTM:

  • Lush Colours – beautiful forest hues that are inspired by the plant-filled habitats of gardens and woodlands
  • Buzz Colours – upbeat tones of pinks and ochres that capture the bustling biodiversity of a wildflower field or grassland
  • Raw Colours – harvest shades that mimic nature’s raw materials
  • Flow Colours – warm neutrals and deeper seashore tones that bring a sense of fluidity and momentum

Lisa Pilley, Dulux Trade Commercial Colour Consultant, adds: “Wild WonderTM and its four versatile colour palettes reflect the natural world and intuitively connect with nature’s supply of substrates and materials – whether structural or aesthetic. As the world strives to re-use, rescue and build sustainably within commercial design programmes, placing humanity and environment at the heart of design is becoming increasingly essential.

“Colour can be transformational and guide occupants’ feelings and emotions. This year’s Colour of the Year and associated palettes open opportunities to connect the natural world with our everyday lives in the built environment.”

The year 2023 brings two major milestones to the Global Aesthetic Centre. Its ColourFuturesTM trend forecast will celebrate its 20th anniversary, while the team also reaches three decades of trend analysis, colour research, colour design and art direction at AkzoNobel.

The launch of Wild WonderTM is supported by the Dulux Trade Colour of the Year 2023 Specifier brochure, designed to inspire commercial design professionals working in all sectors, from hospitality to healthcare.

This brochure is part of Dulux Trade’s ongoing dedication to supporting specifiers with their latest projects, and is part of a wider package of ColourFuturesTM content. The package includes design mood boards and advice videos that can be harnessed by professionals looking to create the perfect space – in any setting – using Wild WonderTM.

The UK’s market leader in luxury vinyl flooring, Karndean Designflooring, is giving designers greater flexibility to create engaging industrial interiors with the introduction of concrete design flooring in an extra-large tile size.

From 27th September, its popular LooseLay range will include three concrete designs in a larger 1000mm x 1000mm tile format, offering the ability to create an on-trend streamlined look quickly and with less environmental impact. A realistic alternative to poured and polished concrete, Karndean’s LooseLay range is designed to not only meet but exceed expectations in commercial spaces.

Expected to find favour in settings such as retail, hospitality and public sector spaces, the new tile size is ideal for laying in a grid pattern to create minimalist clean lines and an unbroken effect.

Karndean’s LooseLay flooring is designed to be easy to install, featuring a K-Wave friction grip backing that creates a strong bond to the subfloor using a combination of weight and friction. With just tackifier required in high traffic areas and at thresholds, Karndean’s water based tackifier offers twice as much coverage than standard adhesive which supports less waste and overall lowers the impact on the environment.

Rather than having to replace the entire floor in the event of damage, each tile or plank can be lifted individually, making it the perfect option for high footfall spaces. This also allows for simple access to underfloor services as required or for flooring to be reused in another setting.

With a subtle emboss and matt finish, the creamy-grey tones of Quebec, complex grey shades of Colorado and gunmetal grey mottled effect of Vermont offer a look that’s reminiscent of a concrete floor but without the cost or inconvenience. Unlike the real thing, these designs can be combined to incorporate effective wayfinding and zoning.

Fleur Carson, commercial sales director at Karndean Designflooring, said: “It’s easy to see why concrete flooring is a timeless choice when looking for a modern backdrop and industrial finish in commercial spaces. Providing a neutral grey background, our concrete designs look fantastic in conjunction with either the clean lines of a fresh white interior or with the calming earthy tones of a biophilic scheme. By adding resimercial elements, designers can create inspirational spaces which will enhance health and wellbeing.

“We see it as our responsibility to create the best arrangement of functional tones and textures with the lowest possible environmental impact. Our new 1000mm x 1000mm tiles are designed to offer outstanding aesthetic and technical performance and so enable the installation of a stunning floor quickly but without compromising on practicality. Designers can be confident that our flooring will provide a neutral canvas and perfect complement to lighting, furniture and other design elements as well as help meet sustainability targets.”

Karndean’s LooseLay flooring absorbs the impact of noise with strong acoustic credentials. An incorporated acoustic layer effectively reduces noise transfer to the floor below by 13dB and, for additional protection, tiles can be installed over Versilay InstaShield to achieve impact sound reduction of 17dB.

Naturally warmer and softer underfoot than concrete, Karndean flooring is also compatible with underfloor heating systems and is easier to keep hygienically clean, requiring no resealing or resurfacing.

Ledbury Studio creates kitchens that are uniquely personal to every client – a point happily noted by the owners of this stunning home in Poole. “It was love at first sight when they saw the eclectic range of materials on show at our studio in Notting Hill,” says Ledbury Studio founder Charlie Smallbone. This, coupled with Ledbury Studio’s skill for mixing and matching these beautiful materials to create truly bespoke designs was perfectly aligned with the clients vision for a contemporary kitchen that oozes wow factor.

Extensive building work was required to create the light-filled, open-plan space that now exists. To divide the large space into smaller areas of activity, Charlie designed a screen in black-stained oak and aged brass to frame the kitchen. From this vantage point, the eye is automatically drawn to the striking mirrored splashback embellished with aged copper. It provides a stunning backdrop to the island, another talking point thanks to the verdigris copper panels edged in black-stained oak on one side and the black-stained oak cupboard doors surrounded by aged brass on the other.

To pull the various metallic elements together, Ledbury Studio’s design included an aged-brass rack over the island. This creates a small space to display beautiful objects.

Injecting a neutral note is the poured concrete flooring and the base cupboards that run in an L-shaped configuration to the island. Made from oak and painted white to allow the beauty of the grain to shine through, the cupboards are topped with a pale quartz worktop and feature patinated brass surrounds and kickplates to coordinate with the other cupboards in the kitchen.

Also sharing the space is a bank of built-in tall cupboards illuminated by an LED surround. They incorporate a large larder for food storage, ovens and a fridge, and the cupboard fronts are made from liquid metal in a specialist shagreen finish. Aged-brass handles unify the look. “Every Ledbury Studio kitchen is truly unique and this one was no exception,” says Charlie. “Our clients were thrilled with the result, and in particular, with the range of materials used.”

Ledbury Studio kitchens start from £70,000.
