Since USM’s very beginning, sustainable development has been a keystone of its business
As a furniture company, that means two things. Firstly, it holds itself to the very highest standards when it comes to the materials and production methods it uses and the energy and emissions it produces. Secondly, USM does everything it can to provide its customers with furnishings that allow them to live in a sustainable manner. USM build and frequently redevelop its factories and workshops to meet a high standard of environmentalism. The steel at the heart of its products is highly recyclable, and its manufacturing processes are carefully built around the goals of energy efficiency and almost total recyclability at every stage.
In 2007, USM became the first European company to be certified by the Greenguard Environmental Institute for the low particle and chemical emissions of its products. Low emissions make home and work environments healthier by reducing indoor air pollution. In 2018 its continued dedication to sustainability awarded USM the Cradle to Cradle® certification for its USM Haller and USM Kitos M ranges.
USM build products that endure: wear-resistant materials, fine craftsmanship, durable designs, and timeless style all ensure that USM furniture lasts a lifetime.

A functional, designer model with a strong contemporary accent: Martini presents the Essenza wardrobe
Choosing the right wardrobe plays a fundamental role in the organisation of the bedroom. Martini offers flexible, modular systems to meet every need, creating the ideal solution for keeping clothes, shoes, accessories and jewellery in order, and the new Essenza wardrobe has been conceived to allow the project designer to create furnishings with no limits, with or without doors. For a functional, designer setting with a strong contemporary accent, the Martini programme of walk-in and closed wardrobes in Titanium Oak and Platinum White is given an extra touch of elegance thanks to the leather coverings and metal details. The light-coloured interiors are completed with an endless variety of accessories and LED lighting.
With shoe and clothes racks, accessory compartments and shelves available, the Martini wardrobe can be customised for both him and her. The composition designed for him is in India Rosewood, with dark leather and metal profiles with a brass finish. Dividers, rasters and shoe holder elements help optimise space and keep clothes and a whole range of different clothing accessories in perfect order. The wardrobe for her is light and sophisticated, with Platinum White lacquering that highlights the brushed steel details. The spaces are equipped with painstaking detail, and the island features an elegant, supremely practical make-up area. The matte, satin-finish steel adds a vintage touch to the whole structure, and the pull-out columns and parts fitted with doors offer a stylish environment for belongings.
Introducing the THG Paris West Coast Collection with Timothy Corrigan
With offices in Paris and Los Angeles, Timothy Corrigan’s timeless design philosophy combines European elegance with California comfort. Timothy comments on his recent collaboration with THG Paris:
“I have always been so impressed by the beautiful design and extraordinary attention to detail that one finds in all of the THG Paris products, that one cannot but compare them to jewellery for the bathroom. The intricate details and pleasure that one feels when touching the handles turns a routine and often mundane experience into one that is special. For me, beauty and detail are a basic part of the THG Paris DNA. With that thought in mind, I looked back at a period when jewellery and decorative objects became a greater part of a everyday life: the 1920’s and 30’s. When some of the most beautiful silver and jewellery pieces were created by such leading French and American jewellery makers as: Cartier, Christofle, and Tiffany’s."
Cosentino's Dekton® Stonika blends with nature to create 4 classic colours of a hyper-realistic beauty
Vibrant veined patterns and textures with the highest technological performance of a revolutionary surface. Dekton® Stonika upholds Cosentino's high quality standards with its thermal and scratch resistance; belonging to the XGloss collection, it retains the same scratch properties as other polished colours. Base and surface react in the same way to temperature changes, avoiding common cracks caused by the difference in expansion between the two elements.
Inspired by the quartzite of the Taj Mahal, the Dekton® Stonika Taga is an interpretation adapted to current trends while maintaining the character of natural stone. The general greyish tones with marble and crystalline veins enhance its natural structure. Its splendid sheen and aesthetic quality contribute to making this a premium model.
Bisque launches competition to find the next generation of stylish radiators
Named one of The Observer’s CoolBrands three years in a row, Bisque paved the way for a radiator revolution. Notable models include the Leaf and Cactus radiators, while partnerships with the likes of Paul Priestman have kept Bisque at the forefront of cutting-edge radiator design ever since.
The pioneering British design brand has announced an exclusive competition to find the ‘next big thing’ in luxury radiators and celebrate its landmark 40th anniversary. Budding designers and Bisque fans alike will be invited to join the movement and make their mark on the design industry by creating the brand’s newest model. Eagle-eyed Bisque fans may recall the last time Bisque invited the public to design a new model to join its repertoire. The prize model, the Archibald – designed by Italian Leo Salzedo – went on to win the 2006 designboom competition and is still one of the brand’s most iconic and instantly recognisable radiators today.

THG Paris, the leading French atelier for the bath, partners again with celebrated designer Pierre-Yves Rochon for a sophisticated new collection that represents the same luxury and refinement characteristics of the renowned French atelier. Le 9 will be on display at 2019 Decorex international fair. Following nine other emblematic partnerships between the celebrated designer and THG Paris, Le 9 combines Rochon’s creativity with THG Paris’ know-how. Le 9 is a study of pure form and a contemporary interpretation on the Art Deco style while reflecting an alluring blend of defined contours and refined materials.
THG Paris CEO, Michel Gosse, said “With Le 9, our partnership reaches new heights by showing just how easy it is to bring an evolved and urbane aesthetic to the bath.” The cylindrically-shaped howlite handles of Le 9 feature contrasting quadrants in the same finish as the spout. The coating of these colours is done by a PVD process that provides a high quality, durable and consistent finish. Reframe the existing with unique and exclusive bathroom accessories.
Bringing Gira's smart kitchen solutions to Poggenpohl Wigmore
Gira, one of the world's leading full-range suppliers of intelligent system solutions collaborate with fellow German superbrand, Poggenpohl, to offer 'partner products' that introduce Gira smart solutions to Poggenpohl's market leading kitchen furniture, as a standard. Fulfilling the fastest growing trend for smart home design, Gira is now on display at the newly designed Poggenpohl flagship showroom in London's upscale Wigmore Street, exhibiting a host of smart lighting systems and solutions that enable connection, communication and power supply - in the kitchen! Whether designed with reactive or sensitive operation, remote access, programming and control or quite simply, offer improved utility and convenience, smart lighting is extremely valuable to both the overall design and function of a kitchen.
Regaining its position as the hub of the home, the kitchen is once again the epicenter of family life. Kitchen designers are therefore required to create modern shapes and design with innovative functionality however, kitchen planners often lack practical experience when it comes to technical innovations, which derive from the field of Intelligent Building Control. Both Gira and Poggenpohl aim to remove this potential hurdle, designing furniture that accommodates these types of solutions at the manufacturing stage. By fabricating the furniture to accommodate Gira smart solutions as standard, they are collectively making it possible for designers and planners to integrate all types of intelligent build applications in one single KNX installation.

Bette’s new sculptural washbasin, the BetteCraft, wins Red Dot Award for Product Design
Bette’s new circular, counter-top washbasin, the BetteCraft, has been awarded a Red Dot Award 2019 for product design. This is the second award for the basin, which was launched at ISH in March and won a Design Plus Award powered by ISH 2019. The basin combines the sculptural aesthetics of the finest porcelain with the perfect material for the bathroom: glazed titanium steel. In addition to an elegant white, Bette also offers the basin in a range of colours, including exclusive matt shades and in Bette’s new Effect colours, such as sparkling Midnight, velvety Blue Satin and iridescent Forest.
The basin’s organically-inspired design forms a rounded shape that tapers towards the top and bottom which is very unusual for extremely strong and durable glazed titanium-steel; the design is usually associated with soft clay at the potter's wheel. Not only aesthetically pleasing, the design is also practical as the elegant taper towards the top acts as a practical splash guard. To achieve the design, every BetteCraft basin is individually made by hand, and then glazed on both the inside and outside.
Upgrade your interior designs this month with the latest product releases, collection launches and designer collaborations. New designs from Newmor Wallcoverings
Newmor’s Spring launches this year are all about playing with light – inky ethereal prints and shifting, gleaming block textures. All of the new designs are wide-width fabric backed vinyl wallcoverings suitable for commercial interiors and high traffic areas. Rising Tide showcases soft painterly horizontal plumes. Inspired by dying techniques that bleed and spread into ethereal overlapping gradients. Reminiscent of ocean waves or rolling early morning fog, the subtle colour shifts in brush strokes resemble the way light dances and floats across a misty landscape. Available in both matte and shimmering mylar colourways in a soft natural colour palette.

THG Paris collaborate with French architect to create the Nihal Collection
THG Paris's desire to maintain a fresh and evolving aesthetic through unique designer collaborations is continued in their latest collaboration with Xavier Cartron: a French architect who specialises in projects in the Middle East. An integral part of 'Nihal's' DNA is expressing this dialogue between cultures and the mixing of tones and materials which are associated with each. 'Nihal' is inspired by the landscapes, marquetry and rich tones and textures found across Moorish architecture in the Eastern hemisphere. Named after a star in the Lepus constellation symbolising spring water, artisanal know-how and technological advances lie at the heart of THG Paris's new 'Nihal' collection.
Manufactured in collaboration with Maison Havilland, 'Nihal' was produced after eighteen months of research and development, with the final result requiring a total of eleven manufacturing steps. Crafted in Limoges porcelain, the braces reject the traditional scrollwork of Middle. This desire to imbue 'Nihal' with a certain diversity is anchored through five colourful versions (green, blue, ivory, black) and metal, because Xavier Cartron wanted the design to have a “timeless aesthetic, meaning it can be part of many universes: contemporary and classic”.

SYLKA™ carpets highlight growing demand for neutral designer-friendly flooring
Multi-award-winning flooring brand, SYLKA™ Carpets, says growing demand for neutral shades, such as light greys, whites and creams have led it to keep more than 3,000 square metres in stock to meet the demands of modern interior designers. These more natural colours are ideal for a range of projects and SYLKA™’s carpets are often specified for luxury boutiques, high-end residential developments and some of the world’s most exclusive superyachts.
SYLKA™’s collection is particularly favoured in these colours thanks to the company’s unique NuSilk™ micro fibre production, which makes its range more durable if it is maintained correctly. Thanks to the development of this unique fibre, SYLKA™ can produce beautiful rugs and carpets that emulate real silk, viscose and bamboo flooring, while remaining robust enough to be used in commercial and marine environments. Utilising its natural shades, SYLKA™ has also launched a Hand Tufted service, that allows designers to combine its neutral colour patterns alongside more bold colours to create truly unique one-off designs.
Bette launches a beautiful, individually made washbasin and a circular bath
The BetteCraft washbasin combines the sculptural aesthetics of the finest porcelain with the perfect material for the bathroom: glazed titanium steel. This artistically-shaped washbasin received the Design Plus Award 2019 at ISH, the world's leading trade fair for bathrooms. This kind of shape is unusual in the extremely strong and hard glazed titanium-steel and is usually associated with soft clay at the potter's wheel. To achieve the design, every BetteCraft basin is individually made by hand, then glazed on both the inside and outside.
The BettePond Silhouette is a circular freestanding bath also made from glazed titanium steel. With no beginning and no end; no edges or corners: the circle is the most perfectly balanced figure in geometry. The circular BettePond was designed by Dominik Tesseraux as a reminder of the original shape of the tub. With a generous 150cm diameter, the circle is the perfect place for quiet contemplation and slowing down in everyday life – and an oasis of tranquillity in the bathroom. Bette also launched BetteSpace: a range of three baths that make intelligent use of the space in small and medium sized bathrooms. The baths use trapezoid geometries to make the optimum use of the available space whilst also offering the highest bathing comfort.

Poggenpohl inspires, rather than prescribing to customers how their future favourite place should look like. The evidence lies within the newly designed flagship store in London’s upmarket Wigmore Street. Its concept leads the way for more salesrooms across Great Britain and the investment demonstrates a commitment to the British market.
London’s Wigmore Street is one of the best locations when it comes to luxurious kitchen interiors. Anyone looking through the large window of the Poggenpohl flagship store will immediately recognise the brand’s philosophy: an abundance of freedom and individuality. Two floor-to-ceiling kitchens from Poggenpohl are designed with architectural elements: the striking, free-standing classic +MODO, with a dark design, champagne-coloured aluminium elements and a pristine white, made-to-measure fitted solution. They highlight the special skill of Poggenpohl: recognising every room situation and providing a perfect design. On the ground floor, you can discover +VENOVO, the latest iconic product by Poggenpohl, whose consistent development accommodates the modern attitude to life. The presentation of these striking exhibition kitchens offers a glimpse into the materials that are used, subtly conveying the luxury of the brand: high-quality marble, tactile ceramics and cool brass.

PaperBoy launches new colours to match your dinosaur to your decor
Dinosaurs. But not as you know them. ‘D’ya-think-e-saurus’ was PaperBoy’s first wallpaper, lovingly sketched by as a gift to Jurassic-minded twins. For 9 years it’s been their best-selling design: what dinosaur nut doesn’t want to imagine the exhilaration of flying through the air with the pterodactyls or beating the T-Rex in a running race?
This March they're introducing three soft new hues to fit into even more design schemes. ‘Confetti’ – if only pink will do, this version will make the room blush; ‘Warm grey’ glows with subtle colour while still being a neutral option; and ‘China blue’ for a cooler tone, without the dullness. As in all their papers, the inks are non-toxic, sustainable, made in England and lovingly hand-crafted in Accrington.

New for 2019: Introducing Empira White by Caesarstone
For a thousand years marble has been appreciated and desired as one of nature’s most luxurious stones, immediately adding grandeur and glamour wherever it is used. As a material, it is timeless. Today marble is as desirable as ever, albeit with a somewhat more relaxed, softer and more organic appeal; a chance to bring nature into urban interiors, a connection to the earth around us and a natural contrast to other man-made materials. Of all marbles, Calacatta is perhaps the best known and Empira White is Caesarstone’s newest interpretation of this most famous material.
2019 is well under way as we enter into February, so make sure you check out the latest products, collections or innovations on the market from the past month. From new textured wall coverings and distinctive ombre painted radiators, to bespoke boiling water taps and contemporary but functional furniture designs.
Bisque, the London-based pioneer of luxurious radiators for stylish interiors, has introduced its latest new finish; a distinctive, ‘dip-dyed’ ombre style. As a brand already widely recognised for offering the widest selection of colours and finishes around, this latest new style only further strengthens Bisque’s colour portfolio. The new ombre finish invites Bisque customers to choose between 4-6 shades. These are carefully applied from light to dark to each Classic during a special application process. This new finish also takes advantage of Bisque’s colour-matching service, where it can cater to popular paint brands such as Farrow & Ball and Little Greene.
Available in both horizontal and vertical models, the Classic is by far Bisque’s most versatile design. Fondly referred to as the old school-style radiator, the Classic has an enduring appeal and a fantastic heat output, and suits a wide range of interiors, from cosy cottage to contemporary townhouse. In addition to thirty-eight stock sizes, it can even be made-to-order when only a particular size will do.
Arper Collections furnish the new library, Oodi, recently inaugurated in the heart of Helsinki and designed by the Finnish firm ALA Architects. Among the bookshelves, the trees and the break rooms, Arper collections interact with the surrounding architecture and blend in seamlessly with the different areas. This ever-changing space develops underneath the undulated ceiling on an equally irregular wooden surface, lit by skylights and the surrounding glass walls. Positioned along the whole library area, the Saari and Catifa 80 sofa and armchair collections create cosy urban living rooms where people can sit down and read. The Catifa Sensit seats, arranged alongside the glass walls, invite people to unwind and enjoy the views, while young readers can take a seat on the colourful Pix ottomans in the children’s area.
Heikki Ruoho, Designer at ALA Architects describes their choice of Arper collections as follows: "These functional products can bear the intense use they are meant for; they are extremely versatile for the comfort of guests of all ages with varied needs. Flexible products that cater to the wishes that rapidly change over the day and depending on the areas; they are light and jolly to express the playful side of this project".
Newmor introduced three new designs to their collection. Woven, terrazzo and textured backgrounds with on-trend prints and smart tailored embosses in contemporary colourways. All are available in commercial quality wide-width fabric backed vinyl, suitable for high traffic areas.

Alexander Joseph have just launched the world’s first luxury cordless lamps. The decision to create the range of lamps came following a fruitless search by the founder, Mark Robinson. He explains, “around a year ago my wife and I looked for decorative cordless lamps, all we could find were entry level or novelty varieties with very limited endurance. I spoke to several interiors’ organisations, lighting companies and retailers, then decided there was a place in the market for Luxury Cordless Lamps”. The patent pending technology used to power lamps provides at least 50 hours of continuous use before the need for recharging. Put another way, 3-4 weeks of normal use. Hidden in a sealed base, the technology is discrete and robust. The company have designed their own LED bulb, preferring to house the drivers in the base rather than within the bulb itself. This allows Alexander Joseph to provide a consistent soft light equivalent to a traditional 60w bulb. The idea has always been to hide the technology so lamps look as decorative as other luxury brands, but without the cord and plug.
Atelier MIRU delivers to daring individuals with an artistic flair and appreciation for the mastery of hand-made craftsmanship. The Resurrection Collection of bespoke, painted furniture by Atelier MIRU was born from a poignant moment in the artist’s life, which became the main inspiration in her creative process. All Eyes on You was created exclusively as part of this collection. Hand painted in oil, the mirror is reminiscent of the human iris and alludes to its various anthropological symbolic values. The eye is not only a gate to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness, but also enlightenment and mindfulness among many. Through its magnified and in-your-face quality, the piece emphasises and deliberates these connotations. By enticing both the visual and emotional, this mirror will easily become the focal point of any luxury interior.

Launched with 35 taps which form the Atrio Collection and sharing one unified look of elegance and precision, Atrio is symbolic of a new era of design that challenges conventions in order to create something truly iconic. The fundamental, consistent design is inspired by GROHE’s original best-selling ATRIO collection incepted more than 10 years ago. Atrio’s sleek, cylindrical design gives a timeless elegance, enhanced by a form that measures the same diameter from the base to the top. This design feat is replicated across all taps within the collection. This is a first for tap design which required technical experts to achieve new levels of engineering perfection, to ensure both form and function worked in harmony. The spout itself curves in the perfect arc of a semi-circle.
From the bold cross handles with subtle ‘H’ and ‘C’ markings, to the slim cylindrical shape made possible by GROHE’s super-slim cartridge technology, the considered details add up to an object with a reassuring air of design permanence. The Atrio collection delivers versatility in its design, with a number of different sizes and configurations for bathroom basins, baths and showers. The Atrio range is available in three beautiful finishes; Chrome, Supersteel and Brushed Hard Graphite.
Heralding new heights for Brighton’s coastline, the new British Airways i360 observation tower is designed by Marks Barfield Architects, who also designed the iconic London Eye. Working with the architects, Inside Out provided a full furnishing solution for the attraction’s dedicated food and beverage offering, the West Beach Bar & Kitchen. Inspiration for the venue has been derived from the vibrant local culture of Brighton and Hove, channelling an eclectic beach hut vibe which includes art from local artists.
From Inside Out’s UK workshop, existing full circle booths have been reupholstered in ocean-hued blue fluting and refitted with weathered-style limed oak wooden panels, which are reminiscent of the seaside. Bespoke marshmallow stools also handmade in the UK feature in an array of red, purple and yellow, dotted around the bar with Cocktail lounges and sofas in matching fabrics to the local art on the walls. From the main dining room, Thea and Karavan chairs mingle with Italian made Jeeves armchairs in a mixture of natural oak and white-washed wood stains. Complementing the dining chairs, the solid wood table tops continue the weathered look with limed oak finished table tops upon black metal bases.

Hand-silvered antique mirror glass, made in-house by Saligo Design will enhance your interiors with an authentic, vintage-esque aesthetic. The vintage style of antique mirror is a distinctive product and, being hand-finished in their workshop, is even more versatile. Hand finishing the mirror allows them to control the level of antiquing, creating lighter or heavier levels of distressing overall, and more specifically, when required, around the edges. Vintage comes in a number of different glass types. For the authentic looking drama of antique mirror, they use hand-silvered clear float glass. With bronze and grey glass, they create reflections which are subdued behind a warm or neutral tint; this finish has less contrast and is elegant and understated.
