Having natural stone in a bathroom is one way to add a touch of luxury to your home. The earthy tones of limestone can recreate a spa-like experience or the bold colours of marble elevate a space with a hint of grandeur.
No matter what materials you use in a wet environment, regular maintenance will always be necessary. The grout of a porcelain tile, for example, will become discoloured easily if you don’t keep on top of the cleaning. A little more time investment might be needed to care for natural stone, but having to do this means that you’ll not neglect the tiles as is so easily done with a ‘low-maintenance’ surface.
As with any room that you are considering installing natural stone in, there’s stone types that are more suitable and usually this is down to reducing the required maintenance.
Marble installed in a bathroom should ideally be the highest grade possible for the minimal inclusions and veining. This is because the vein composition is vulnerable to moisture damage. Very light, white marble can also be subjected to discoloration over time due to its naturally occurring iron content rusting. On the contrary, dark marbles will show the etch marks and hard water deposits very easily and so do require a diligent approach to maintenance.
It is important too, if considering limestone or travertine to opt for a less porous type. Stone suppliers should be able to talk you through the options with the lowest water absorption rate.
After selecting the stone type, particular attention should be paid to the finish on the stone, size of tile and other factors that will impact the slipperiness of the surface if being installed on a bathroom floor.
We recommend that you clean your stone shower and bath area daily. The easiest and most effective way is to spray the walls and floor of the stall with a stone safe cleaner, then squeegee down after everybody in the home has taken a shower for the day. This will stop hard water build ups to the surface of the stone.
This is particularly pertinent when it comes to Marble which is acid sensitive. With strong acids, you will see the effects of this instantly with a white or dull burn mark showing almost instantly. Known as etching, this is not something that can be wiped or cleaned off and will require professional restoration.
Tap water is not always PH neutral which means that over time, this can have a similar effect on your stone. In a marble bathroom, this means that it is really important to keep the surfaces as dry as possible.
In hard water areas (like London and the South East), sitting water will also lead to a build-up of limescale and mineral deposits which can be tricky to remove without risking damage to the stone surface.
When it comes to cleaning the stone in your bathroom it is essential to use a pH neutral stone cleaner. If in doubt, look out for ‘stone-safe’ on the label.
We also recommend keeping this in mind when cleaning other areas of your bathroom. Try using alcohol to clean your windows and mirrors rather than harsher acidic-based cleaning chemicals. If using bleach for your toilet then it is worth taking a little more time to protect any surrounding stone too.
Don’t let metal bathroom accessories (toilet brush holder, toilet paper stand etc) sit directly on the stone floor. Moisture, even from steam condensation will pool around the bases and can cause unsightly and difficult-to-remove rust marks in the stone.
It is also very important to keep an eye on grout and particularly silicone throughout the bathroom. Not only will worn grout look unsightly, but water that gets behind the stone can cause damage beyond repair.
Although stone will have been sealed when installed, it is important to note that this will not prevent the damage that acids and hard water can do over time. Periodic reapplication of a sealant can help to maintain the aesthetics as well as topping up the protection.
Just pour a small amount onto a microfibre cloth and apply to the stone surface in small circles until you have covered the area. Then buff the stone with a fresh cloth to remove any excess. Leave this for at least 15 minutes to dry, ideally 24 hours if possible.
If you opt to have your stone professionally restored or cleaned, the application of a sealant will always be included as part of the treatment.

Karndean Commercial, a trusted supplier of luxury vinyl flooring, is set to showcase the power of inclusive design at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025 with its immersive installation, Designing for the Senses. This thought-provoking exhibit will highlight how neurodiverse design can create environments that cater to a wide range of cognitive and sensory needs.
The UK’s leading design festival, to be held in London’s famous design district on 20-22 May, CDW25 is a must attend event in the industry’s annual calendar and is set to feature the latest design developments, leading brands and emerging talent.
Renowned for its design innovation, Karndean Commercial will be demonstrating how their portfolio of products can support a more inclusive built environment. through a thought provoking installation at its Clerkenwell Green showroom. Featuring a blend of quiet relaxing neutrals and bold stimulating patterns supporting neurodivergent individuals experiencing hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity respectively, the installation demonstrates how designing for the senses can celebrate difference and improve lived experience for everyone.
Richard Allen, commercial sales director at Karndean Commercial, said: “One in seven people in the UK identify as neurodivergent and experience the world in ways that can vary greatly from neurotypical individuals. Neurodiverse conditions include autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In addition, an increasing number of people are living with neurodegenerative conditions such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
“As designers of the built environment, shaping people’s day to day experiences, we have a responsibility to ensure that all users feel comfortable through the creation of inclusive environments where those who experience and process the world differently are recognised and where every individual will feel comfortable. Hypersensitive and hyposensitive design are essential considerations in creating neuro-inclusive environments that cater to individuals with different sensory processing needs, creating environments that benefit the wellbeing of everyone.”
The British Standards Institution introduced guidelines for designing inclusive environments in 2022. PAS 6463 Design for the Mind: Neurodiversity and the Built Environment Through the Different Elements of Sensory Perception presents detailed guidance on how to accommodate for neurodiverse needs through the consideration of sensory needs, from lighting and acoustics to thermal comfort and wayfinding.
Flooring is one of the largest continuous surfaces in a space so its design and material choices can play a pivotal role in creating neuro-inclusive environments. Karndean flooring is designed to authentically reproduce the natural beauty of the world’s most precious woods and stones and so is ideal for creating a biophilic look to complement either calming or stimulating interiors, but without the time consuming maintenance requirements of natural materials.
Karndean’s RIBA approved CPD seminar, Designing Neuro-Inclusive Environments with Flooring, investigates how neurodiversity and neurodegenerative conditions can be accommodated in the built environment by catering to various sensory and neurological processing differences. The key topics covered by the seminar include the British Standards Institution guidelines PAS 6463 and its implications for architecture and interior design, how a selection of real life projects puts this theory into practice and how neuro-inclusive spaces can support the latest fire safety regulations and facilitate evacuation in an emergency situation.
Richard Allen explained: “We’ll be running a taster of our latest RIBA approved CPD seminar during this year’s CDW festival. The session is ideal for anyone looking to understand how individuals with neurodiversity conditions experience interiors and learn how to create thoughtful spaces that allow everyone to thrive.
“Having attended the seminar, designers and specifiers will be able to confidently consult with neurodiverse user groups and stakeholder communities, learn about their lived experience and so fully involve them in the design process, resulting in a superior outcome. We are already taking bookings for our neurodiversity CPD and encourage you to secure your place early, as we expect high demand following this year’s festival"
Karndean Commercial’s Clerkenwell Green showroom will be open throughout CDW25, 20-22 May. Visitors will be able to explore the flexibility of Karndean flooring and meet with dedicated commercial specification managers. Register for your pass at clerkenwelldesignweek.com

A tribute to the very essence of Earth, where the rugged gentleness of rocks whispers ancient secrets, the 2025 Collection takes us on a journey exploring the remarkable landscapes of the surface, down to the depths carved by centuries.
The Earth, this silent immensity, tells a story of creative destruction. Beneath the apparent stillness, is revealed its fragile beauty, sculpted by the flowing water from which life is reborn, shaped by the breath of the elements.
In this world of eternal motion, contradictions intertwine: robustness is carved with delicacy. Each grain of sand, each rock is a hymn to vulnerable strength, an ode to the power that bends, a testament to an Earth that is both the master and the apprentice of time.
Lalique presents the memory of Earth with the new collection: TERRAMINERAL.
The caldera, a grand terrestrial formation, bears witness to a volcanic history. With its circular shape, this vast crater becomes a reservoir of beauty and a guardian of age-old secrets.
The Caldera pieces take on these contours, featuring a delicate cracked pattern evoking the perpetual renewal of the earth. Between shadow and light, the contrast of the design is sublimated by repolished satin crystal, Lalique’s signature, which brings a unique realism and aesthetic.
The Canyon crystal, symbolizing the earth, offers a multitude of hues characteristic of natural rocky landscapes. The Persepolis Blue then represents these fantastic Icelandic volcanic springs.
Inspired by this majestic receptacle of Nature, Lalique crystallizes it into vases, bowls, and decanters. A tribute to a mineral Earth that offers us an eternally poetic spectacle.
All in curves, the Baby Elephant inspires tenderness. The rich texture of the satin-finish repolished crystal perfectly replicates the pachyderm’s ritual: mud baths to cool down and protect itself. In the sun, the mud dries and delicately cracks along the elephants wrinkled skin. With this sculpture shaped as a piece of art, Lalique celebrates the most imposing terrestrial animal, a symbol of strength, intelligence, and pure wisdom.
A true representation of the fragile strength of rock, the Magnitude vases bear this name in homage to the Earth’s power. Inspired by the movement of tectonic plates and mineral faults, they capture a raw beauty: a moment of colossal force juxtaposed with the suspended elegance unique to Lalique’s style. Each ray of light piercing the crystal creates an intense contrast. The play of transparency enhances the depth of the design and reveals the material with brilliance.
With poetic flair, Lalique celebrates the energy of the Earth through a gentle oxymoron of creative destruction. The power that bends transforms into harmonious and timeless works of art, exalted by the virtuosity of master glassmakers.
Limited edition of 45 pieces with gold leaf.
For this limited edition of 45 pieces, Lalique has chosen to adorn the Magnitude vase with one of the most precious metals the Earth has to offer: gold. No fewer than 250 gold leaves are delicately applied by the expert hand of a craftsman into the furrows of crystal with mesmerizing transparency.
Lalique thus pushes elegance to its paroxysm, making gold dance with crystal on this precious and resolutely artistic creation.
In the heart of the Jordan Desert, the beauty of earth cracks emerges after gentle rains, revealing the vibrant minerals from the precious Dead Sea. These fissures, illuminated by sunlight, create intricate mosaics that tell stories of nature’s resilience. Like whispers from the ancient city of Petra, the landscape invites us to marvel at nature’s artistry, where each crack is a testament to the enduring spirit of the earth. Encapsulated in the candle, the soft fragrance of sunlight warms the dewy landscape, where salty minerals rise from the earth.
Proud at the mountain’s peak, perched on a rock, it dominates the valley. Its elegant silhouette is highlighted by Lalique crystal. From the tamed rock to its iconic horns worn with panache, the contrast and purity of the reflections fascinate. In its clear version, the vibrance of the light is showcased in the purest manner, while the Persepolis blue bestows it with modernity. King of sheer cliffs and rugged crests, the Ibex lives up to its name, meaning ”rock goat”.

Arthty Ragupathy is a first-time homeowner constantly looking for new ways to add character and charm to her new build home. Though she built a fireplace in her living room upon moving in a few years ago, the unconvincing electric insert was not in keeping with her style. Last year, after spending several months dreaming of a brick fireplace chamber, she and her husband decided to tackle this project.
The main challenge was creating a brick fireplace that fit within the constraints of the modest living room. They chose brick slips for their project due to their slim profile, which allowed for a space-saving design that fit the limited depth of the existing fireplace.
The existing fireplace was only 31 cm deep, making it impractical to use traditional full-sized bricks. They discovered that brick slips, being thinner than full-sized bricks, were easier to install and suited their DIY capabilities. After conducting thorough research, they felt confident in their decision to use brick slips for the transformation. The texture and warmth would provide the aged, rustic feel they were aiming for, with a finish that felt “perfectly imperfect,” adding character and charm to their home which nailed their brief.
Arthty discovered The Brick Tile Company through recommendations from their Instagram followers. After posting a question box asking for suggestions on the best quality brick slips, the majority of responses pointed them to The Brick Tile Company as a reputable small business. Having previously come across the company’s products and saved several of their posts, she felt that this was the right choice for their project.
After evaluating a few samples, they selected Blend 1 for the fireplace chamber. The muted tones of this blend aligned perfectly with their vision of an aged, rustic finish. The support of their Instagram community further reinforced the decision. A poll was posted between the top two blends, with Blend 1 receiving overwhelming support from followers, solidifying the homeowner's choice. Additionally, they chose Cream Mortar as it provided the perfect level of warmth to complement the tones of Blend 1, creating a harmonious and cohesive finish. It was truly the perfect match.
Arthty praised the customer service provided by The Brick Tile Company. From answering all their questions and addressing all concerns, to the collection of informative, step-by-step guides for installation. “They really do everything in their power to set you up for success. As with any new DIY project, I was extremely nervous diving into adding brick to our fireplace. It felt daunting, and out of my comfort zone. With the guidance from the Brick Tile Company, along with the quality of the brick slips, installation was very straight forward, and I couldn't be happier with the results. My husband and I constantly find ourselves sitting in front of the fireplace, admiring the new and improved view. It is, without a doubt, my favourite feature in our home and the engagement on all my fireplace-related content, only reinforces the fact that my followers feel the same!”
The result was a stunning fireplace chamber that exceeded their expectations. The transformation quickly not only became the standout feature of their home for them, but with engaging content shared on their social media, the positive feedback from their followers mirrored this feeling.
To see more of this stunning home, including additional photos and a video of the process, check out their Instagram page.

This season, sofa.com invites designer professionals to explore dining schemes that embrace lightness – both in mood and material. As we move into spring and the Easter period, there’s an opportunity to reimagine the dining room as a place of quiet optimism and crafted charm.
Start by layering tactile textures. The upholstered Anders dining chairs act as a create canvas for either one of sofa.com numerous fabric choices, or a fabric of your own selection. Its gently flared arms and tailored silhouette make it particularly suited to intimate dining arrangements; especially when positioned around a circular table that encourages connection and conversation. The effect is one of considered comfort: elegant, but never overworked.
For larger architectural spaces with vaulted ceilings, introduce weight and contrast through these angular, block-formed chairs. Their solid silhouettes are best showcased when given enough room to standout.
This spring, tactile and tonal palettes continue to lead. Think soft clay or soft-hued walls, calming fabrics and earthy herringbone flooring underfoot. Combining these elements creates a cosy yet fresh aesthetic ideal for the warmer months and neutral enough to seasonally transition with simple décor changes like tablecloths, floral arrangements and artwork.
Finally, tie everything together this spring with a statement dining table. A sculptural stone pedestal table is a focal point, blending classic curves with modern materials, ideal for both casual and formal dining.
Whether hosting informal brunches or long, candlelit suppers, the result is a dining space that feels as thoughtfully composed as it is lived in.

Victoria + Albert’s Lussari collection, launched in 2023, marked a number of ‘firsts’ for Victoria + Albert: the first time the brand has launched a suite of baths with the same shape; its first corner bath; and its first simultaneous UK and European launch. The original collection comprised of a freestanding bath, a corner bath and a back-to-wall, all sharing the same interior profile, together with a matching countertop basin. Lussari was an instant commercial success for Victoria + Albert and is now firmly established amongst its best-selling models.
Two years later Victoria + Albert is extending the range, with two new washbasins, the Lussari 50 and larger Lussari 60. Both are elegant D-shaped basins, designed to match the back-to-wall bath. Like the baths, they have slim walls and a gently curved rim for touch of sophistication. Both are installed against the wall for a watertight seal, with a slim ledge for mounting brassware or arranging bathroom luxuries.
The basins can be ordered with one or three holes for monobloc basin mixers or three-hole models. For those who prefer wall-mounted taps, and would like to keep the ledge clear, they can also be specified without holes. As with the baths, the basins are available in gloss or matt finishes (the velvety matt finish is a no-cost option) and the exterior can be painted in any of 200 RAL colours, to match any bathroom design.
The new Lussari basins should further increase the appeal of the Lussari collection while enhancing Victoria + Albert’s reputation as a design leader in the category.
Victoria + Albert Baths was born out of a passion for luxury bathing. The vision was simple: to set the standard for style, innovation, and performance in bathing products. Renowned for exceptional design and rigorous attention to detail, Victoria + Albert developed a unique material called QUARRYCAST™, made from a blend of Volcanic Limestone™ and high-performance resins. Volcanic Limestone™ is Victoria + Albert’s name for the very special white rock that is perfect for making baths and basins. Volcanic Limestone™ rock is milled and blended with high quality resins to bind the strands of rock into a complex 3D matrix. The finished result is QUARRYCAST™ - a world class stone composite that delivers unrivalled strength, durability, and beauty. Victoria + Albert is part of the House of Rohl family of brands, alongside Perrin & Rowe (kitchen and bathroom brassware and sanitaryware), Shaws (fireclay sinks) and Riobel (kitchen and bathroom brassware).
About Perrin & Rowe

Rooted in Mediterranean architectural heritage yet looking to the future, Roca unveils a striking presence at ISH 2025 with a stand that embodies simplicity, warmth, and technology. Designed by the Barcelona-based architecture firm Mesura, the 1,000m² pavilion seamlessly blends material honesty, environmental awareness, and a timeless architectural language, offering visitors an engaging and inspiring experience.
At ISH, Roca presents its latest innovations and new collections, introducing cutting-edge bathroom solutions that emphasize modularity, connectivity, prefabrication, and advanced installation systems. The brand also showcases exciting new collaborations with renowned designers, reinforcing its commitment to design excellence and forward-thinking solutions. With a focus on sustainability and technological integration, Roca’s presence at ISH reaffirms its role as a leader in the evolution of modern bathrooms.
The core message of the entire installation: the bathroom is the most complex room in the house, requiring the most demanding planning and the highest investments. To do justice to its potential and challenges, it must be considered, evaluated and appreciated from different perspectives. A market leader can only approach it from multiple perspectives: design, technologies, processes, usage behaviour, digital integration, sustainability and social relevance are crucial.
In concrete terms, this means that Roca has not only developed from a traditional sanitary ware manufacturer into a producer of complete designer bathrooms, but also offers the technology in front of and in the wall from its own company. Furthermore, solutions for important sub-target groups and typical challenges in connection with the bathroom have been developed in collaboration with designers, architects and scientists. The product systems and new products shown at the ISH are based on this idea.
Barcelona based design studio Altherr Désile Park has redesigned the Meridian bathroom collection. Meridian perfectly illustrates the Mediterranean lifestyle in the bathroom. Meridian is the new edition of a Roca classic: the timeless design plays with the lightness of the arches and curves in which the square is inscribed. It shows the possibilities for combining ceramics, wood and steel in soft forms with a finely defined colour and surface code. It is a balance between warmth, softness and light: the aim is to create a contemporary design context that appeals to the majority in the 170 countries in which Roca is represented.
Munich designer Stefan Diez has developed the Kay faucet collection, which takes its inspiration from the architectural cantilevering and the bollards and cranes of harbour facilities (quay wall). It is no coincidence that the term ‘crane’ is used synonymously with ‘faucet’ in many languages (German, Swedish, Norwegian and Dutch) – ‘water crane’. Diez creates his dynamic forms from strictly geometric blocks, evoking associations with craftsmanship or the natural wear and tear of use. The Kay collection is complete and will be available as a modern design offering for washbasins, bathtubs, bidets and showers.
The stand also gives an impression of the range offered by Roca. One area is dedicated to the Smart Toilets, the brand’s intelligent shower toilets, which feature sophisticated functions. The latest incorporation to the is In-Wash® Vorea, where all the advanced features of a smart toilet are subtly hidden within a familiar, elegant silhouette.
The company's absolute speciality: the in-tank versions, which do not require an external cistern and thus enable completely new bathroom concepts.
Securing the quality of drinking water is a major issue in many countries around the world. Roca has developed a drinking water filter concept that is being used for the first time in a kitchen faucet. This replaces the classic faucet with filtered drinking water from a spout. The big advantage: this makes drinking water directly from the tap enjoyable, a lot of CO2 is saved for avoiding bottle transport and a lot of plastic production for bottles is avoided.
Collaboration with great designers and architects is Roca's trademark: the Ohtake Collection – a remarkable collaboration between Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake and the Roca Group – dates from 2021. Ruy Ohtake drew inspiration from nature, in particular the shape of an egg, and for the multiple design award-winning collection, he used Roca's ceramic expertise to achieve ultrathin edges for his sculptural designs. Ruy Ohtake passed away in November 2021 at the age of 83 – his son Rodrigo is now showing an extension of the organic collection for Roca, with a bathtub and further washbasins.
The Avant toilet combines modern design with innovative technology and optimises the space in every bathroom. Thanks to its integrated cistern, Avant saves up to 20 cm compared to conventional toilets with a front wall installation. Avant is available in two versions: as a wall-hung or floor-standing model, each in an electric and a non-electric version. The electric Avant-E model ensures a reliable flush even at lower water pressures. Thanks to Roca Rimless Vortex technology, Avant offers a splash-free, efficient flush, while the Supraglaze coating makes cleaning easier. With a dual-flush option (4.5 l/3 l) and a soft-close seat, Avant sets new standards in comfort and hygiene.
Roca is world-renowned as a complete bathroom specialist – showers and faucets are part of every bathroom. Roca has dedicated two separate areas to these indispensable technical water faucets, where the brand's design and sustainability standards are also celebrated. Key points are faucets that deliver cold water when the valve is opened and not pre-mixed water as is usually the case with single-lever mixers. This saves a lot of energy with hot water if the user does not consciously request hot water.
Roca Connect, Roca Installation Systems (RIS) and Roca Prefab are the big technology topics of this exhibition stand. They are addressed to architects, planners and project operators. Roca Connect, is a networking service between the IoT and digital building management technology that ensures the convenient, efficient and secure management of sanitary areas in both private and public properties.
The range of Roca Installations Systems extends from individually manufactured sanitary walls and shafts to finished bathrooms. Roca operates its own plants in Central Europe, which plan installation technology to size, prefabricate it industrially and use sophisticated logistics to ensure that these modules are delivered to construction sites just in time. Behind these concepts is a task for society as a whole: living space is urgently needed and bathroom construction is one of the bottlenecks in residential construction. The concepts presented here show ways to solve the problem.
Roca is also showing the latest version of the luxury bathroom concept Armani by Roca. This collaboration between the international bathroom specialist and the Italian luxury brand has been and continues to be implemented in many luxury accommodation options in hotels, condominiums and temporary living spaces in the best locations around the world.

Tailored solutions starting at one piece: Dornbracht Atelier stands for individuality with outstanding manufacturing quality. The new business segment from the German fittings manufacturer offers architects and designers maximum creative freedom to express their own style – and to create unique, unmistakable solutions.
With Dornbracht Atelier, the manufacturer opens access to its intangible heritage for all creative people, which has been enriched through knowledge, experience, and craftsmanship over the last 75 years. This expertise forms the basis for Dornbracht Atelier, which realises personal wishes and visions with style and reliability.
This opens a spectrum of almost limitless possibilities and an inexhaustible platform of experimentation for innovations, which the manufacturer realises with its own department, and in collaboration with competent cooperation partners: The supreme discipline here is the development and realisation of truly unique items. Working with new and unusual materials, finishes, production techniques, and shapes also allows customised fittings and handles to be created. Customers can, for example, incorporate their own material preferences and thus take up and continue the design concept in the bathroom. Unique engravings and customised dimensions complete the range.
One fitting in particular illustrates the possibilities of Dornbracht Atelier in an impressive way: Inspired by a swan elegantly spreading its wings, it exemplifies the high degree of individualisation that Dornbracht Atelier offers. Harmonious proportions, top-quality workmanship, precision, and attention to detail play a decisive role.
Dornbracht showcases several examples of how a wide variety of materials can be used to create spectacular individual pieces. These include a black and white version of Vaia with a shell finish: the contemporary interpretation of the traditional chequerboard pattern requires the highest level of craftsmanship, and creates a dynamic, unconventional look. Tara is similarly original with its velvet and gold body. The elegant contrast between matte and polished surfaces creates a strong visual appeal and a high level of sensory ambivalence. CYO, framed in leather, is equally inspiring: skilfully crafted, the fitting combines opulence and sophistication, with the material symbolising a sense of style and timeless luxury. For Vaia, with a finish made from recycled eggshells, mosaics are put together according to the customer’s wishes – creating a direct connection to nature.
