Over 18 cruise ship interiors design experts representing cruise lines and design firms will be sharing their expertise at Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Americas (CSI), taking place 6 – 7 June at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Running on the second day of the cruise interiors trade show, the IDCEC certified CSI Conference & Workshop Program, partnered with NEWH, offers extensive insight into the current and future talking points of the industry.
The program offers an expansive range of topics covering storytelling in design, visual brand identity, and understanding the next generation of cruisegoers whilst providing a unique opportunity to hear insights from industry leaders within this niche market.
Among the esteemed speakers are Sascha Lang, Vice President, Architectural & Design – Newbuild & Innovation – Royal Caribbean Cruises; Jennie Drummond, Head of Art – SMC Design; Willie Trager, Design Manager – Interior Asset Management at Holland America Group; Christopher Stubbs, AVP Sailor (Customer) and Crew (Employee) Experience – Virgin Voyages.
This year, the CSI conference will be debuting a new format. The overhauled program will feature a combination of keynotes and workshop sessions taking place on the second day of the event – which will be themed on learning and development – instead of being spread across two days as in previous iterations. This offers a more interactive program which allows for a full day of uninterrupted knowledge sharing.
The CSI Conference & Workshop Program is now accredited by the International Design Continuing Education Council Inc (IDCEC). Each CEU-accredited session is tailored to suit all players across the cruise interiors supply chain.
This year’s sessions include Marine Design 101 where industry newcomers can submit their questions to a panel of CSI Advisory Board members. This provides a unique opportunity to break into a lucrative industry, guided by experts, while returning keynote, Leaders Debate – State of the Industry, provides an exploration into the biggest trends and opportunities facing the industry from sustainable sourcing to taking corporate responsibility, led by design experts from leading cruise lines and design firms.
Design focused sessions that will inspire and help designers to upskill and take their projects to the next level include Spaces: Supporting guest Experience Using Visuals, Branding & Artwork and A Tale of Design. Here, the panel will share how to create emotional connections with guests through design storytelling, featuring Trisha Poole, President at Design Poole Inc, past International President at NEWH, an award-winning design visionary who crafts projects that tell stories through thoughtful, interpretive design.

Cruise Ship Interiors Expo Europe (CSIE) has released the itinerary for the cruise ship interiors industry’s best opportunity for in-person learning, Cruise Conversations Live. Cruise lines, interior designers and outfitters can learn from their peers at topical conference sessions, while intimate workshops explore the challenges specific to cruise ship interior design with pinpoint precision. From blue sky thinking for leaders and buyers to practical takeaways for suppliers, every participant in the cruise ship interiors supply chain can learn from this free conference programme.
Cruise brands leading the conference and workshop programme include Holland America Line, Royal Caribbean Group, Damen Shipyard, Meyer Turku, Disney Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and MSC Cruises.
Shipyards are the heart of the European cruise ship interiors industry and CSIE will be welcoming Vesa Uuttu, Director, Head of Architectural Design & Outfitting Turku site, Newbuild and Innovation, Royal Caribbean Group to moderate the keynote conference, The Modern Shipyard. Project managers and owners alike know that a strong relationship with their shipyard is one of their biggest assets. In this session, essential for project managers and owners alike, Bas Loohuis, Commercial Director Maintenance & Upgrade Services Cruise, Damen Shipyard and Petteri Heimo, Head of Hotel Outfitting, Meyer Turku will share their perspective, exploring: how shipyards can add value to newbuild and refurbishment projects, top tips for ensuring both quality and efficiency and how to combine reference ship requirements with innovation.
Anyone hoping to launch their business into the cruise ship interiors industry must attend the workshop Marine Design 101: How to Break into the Marine Market. Led by Beatrice Siri, AVP Architectural Outfitting Europe, Royal Caribbean Cruises, this intimate session decodes the language of marine design and will guide attendees through the seemingly labyrinthine specification process. Practical takeaways will include the top ten questions to ask cruise lines when pitching your product, the different routes to market and, crucially, how to become an authorised supplier.
Designers with an eye for the future will be found at the day one keynote The Futurist: Cruise Design in 2030 and the day two conference session Young Designers: Designing for Gen Z and Beyond. From those who track trends to those who are currently shaping the trends, the CSIE conference presents two insights into trapping lightning in a bottle and getting it right before its even happened.
Cruise Conversations Live takes place over the two days of Cruise Ship Interiors, 30 November – 1 December. It’s completely free to visit and one of only two opportunities in the year to attend a live conference and workshop programme dedicated to exploring the cruise ship interiors industry.

Coming together to celebrate the cruise community, registration is now open for Cruise Ship Interiors Expo America (CSI) and Cruise Ship Interiors Expo Europe (CSIE). CSI will take place in Miami, Florida, the heart of the cruise world from 10th – 11th November, while CSIE is located at the ExCeL in London - one of the design capitals of the world from 1st – 2nd December.
The cruise interiors community is galvanised by the thought of reuniting after nearly two years since they last met in person. These exciting live events will host the industry leaders across cruise lines, architects, designers, outfitters and suppliers, all ready for the return to face-to-face business. Visitors can expect vibrant show floors featuring YSA Design, SMC Design, Trimline, AROS Marine, Bolidt and more, with exhibitors ranging from the lifeblood of cruise interior design to land-to sea newcomers.
After sampling the new products and innovation of our exhibitors – including textiles & materials, furnishings, outfitting, retail and outdoor attractions – attendees can visit the live Cruise Conversations Conference. Industry leaders from cruise lines, shipyards and design firms will be speaking on the most relevant and urgent topics of today, including the role that interior design will play in the reinvigoration of the cruise industry.
CSI and CSIE will both kick off in style with their Big Cruise Reunion Party – and the networking only starts there. Targeted and curated networking events – including sought-after opportunities available only to CSI Plus members – will take place across both shows, restarting the conversations critical to the cruise interiors supply chain. Networking on the show floor will include the industry favourite Happy Hour and be open to everyone who attends CSI and CSIE.
Anne Mari Gullikstad, Senior Interior Architect YSA Design, founding partners of CSI and CSIE, said, “Being dedicated to cruise ship interiors, the event attracts many different actors from the industry, under one roof. Further, we see the effort the exhibitors go to, with amazing stands to showcase what they do, and this makes us proud to be part of the scene. We look forward to the return of these live events immensely.”
After a challenging year it is crucial that we celebrate the achievements of the cruise interiors community. The second Cruise Ship Interiors Awards launches at CSI, where voting will take place on the show floor. Celebrate the people, projects and teams that make our industry great.
