Dean Weston, Managing Director of C.P. Hart, has given his insights into the industry.

C.P. Hart is an established bathroom supplier with over 85 years of experience in specifying and sourcing the world’s most innovative and durable premium bathroom products. A successful Contracts division operates with architects, designers, and contractors, often on major commercial property developments and hotels, whilst a highly qualified in-house design team works with individual and private clients, ensuring each bathroom is as unique as it is beautiful.

C.P. Hart has always insisted on using the finest materials and advanced manufacturing techniques to create the highest quality classical and contemporary bathrooms. The brand has also developed a reputation for showcasing some of the world’s most talented and innovative bathroom designers, located in our showrooms across the UK and led by our expansive flagship in Waterloo, London.

C.P. Hart’s bathroom collections include brassware, sanitaryware, furniture, tiles, home spas, and a range of other essential components for bespoke bathrooms.

What are the origins of the brand?

Established in 1937 by Charles Percival Hart, later joined by sons Tom and John Hart, C.P. Hart has consistently challenged the industry to take a fresh look at bathroom design. C.P. Hart creates spaces that work in harmony with your lifestyle whilst reflecting your aesthetic ideals, resulting in one-of-a-kind bathrooms that are as beautiful as they are functional. Few businesses have maintained a leading position in innovation, quality, and service for over 90 years.

Since the early years supplying bathroom sanitary ware, plumbing products, and tiles to Southeast London, C.P. Hart has been responsible for introducing the most exciting product innovations to the UK. Household names such as Duravit were first launched by C.P. Hart and thanks to continued close relationships, the world’s leading manufacturers still choose the company to exclusively showcase new designs.

Whilst paving the path for innovation, C.P. Hart has a long history of developing its own in-house products. From John Hart’s innovative Waterloo shower valve in 1992, which went onto become the biggest selling valve of the decade, through to our most popular classical collection, the London range, C.P. Hart understands the needs of the bathroom market like no other.

What has been your most significant company highlight or success from the past year?

I have only been with the business for seven months, after a career in the KBB sector, during which I had long admired C.P. Hart. What has surprised me most is the level of innovation and care within the company. Despite its well-deserved reputation as a leader in the luxury bathroom sector, I was amazed to see how focused the team is on the customer experience and the smallest details that ensure perfection in every completed bathroom, whether in a client’s home or on one of our trade partners’ large-scale projects.

C.P. Hart

What are the latest trends you’ve noticed in your client’s requests?

In recent years, we’ve seen a shift away from the minimalist, white, clinical-style bathrooms that dominated much of the early 2000s. Instead, our clients are increasingly drawn to more colourful, characterful spaces that reflect the opulence of earlier design eras such as the Art Deco period and the glamour of the 1970s.

There’s a growing appetite for bathrooms with colour, texture, pattern, and depth, now shifting to spaces that feel rich and layered through the clever use of materials. Alongside this, spa-inspired bathrooms are becoming hugely popular. What was once the preserve of luxury hotels is now far more attainable at home, with innovations in home saunas, steam, and wellness-led design.

Another key trend is the introduction of nature into the bathroom. Clients are looking to bring the outdoors in through organic textures, natural finishes, and earthy tones. Tiles play an essential role in this transformation, and with hundreds of ranges to choose from, they allow us to create highly personalised schemes tailored to each client’s vision.

C.P. Hart

How do you see the interior design industry evolving in the year ahead?

We anticipate the year ahead will continue the move toward more expressive, personalised interiors. Clients are becoming bolder, stepping away from uniform, neutral schemes and instead embracing colour, pattern, and layered textures that tell a story and create a sense of individuality. Our clients want their bathrooms to be an extension of their home.

Wellness-focused design will also continue grow, with interiors, particularly bathrooms, being seen as restorative spaces for relaxation and self-care. The integration of spa-like features, natural elements will only increase.

Technology will also play an important role, from smart lighting and water-saving solutions to innovations that make luxury features more accessible.

Is there anything new you are excited to be working on?

While we always remain discreet about our clientele, it’s continually a pleasure to encounter some of the major celebrities who trust us with their homes. Similarly, there are significant developers bringing exceptional, large-scale projects to life across the Capital. Even after several decades in the industry, I’m still excited by the opportunity to source exclusive products for our customers and to make a real difference in someone’s home.

What does being an SBID Accredited Industry Partner mean to you?

Being an SBID Accredited Industry Partner is a real mark of trust and credibility for us. It reflects our commitment to excellence, professionalism, and innovation within the design community. For our clients, it provides reassurance that they are working with a company that upholds the highest standards and is aligned with a globally recognised authority in interior design.

It also allows us to stay closely connected to the wider design industry – sharing knowledge, supporting best practice, and contributing to the future of interior design. Most importantly, it strengthens our ability to collaborate with designers, architects, and specifiers, ensuring we can provide the best possible expertise, products, and support for their projects. We are a relationship based business, and interior design is fundamental cornerstone for us – it’s the creativity that we thrive on.

Matthew Williamson is an award-winning, British interior designer known predominantly for his unique and unrivalled use of pattern and colour. Having begun his illustrious career in global fashion under his namesake brand over 20 years ago, Matthew has drawn on his decades of experience and pivoted seamlessly into the world of interior design. Matthew now develops several homeware collections to sit alongside his growing residential and commercial interior design portfolio.

“Bathrooms often feel cold and clinical with functionality dominating aesthetics, so I envisioned a warm, inviting space that functions as well as delights,” shares Matthew.

In this striking room set display, Matthew masterfully blends a curated selection of C.P. Hart’s most sought-after bathroom ranges with his distinctive, handsourced treasures. A vintage mouthblown Murano glass light hangs above IdeaGroup’s new Seven freestanding bath; a bespoke mirror overlooks Buto’s fluted Galiano vanity; artwork carefully selected by Matthew mirrors the bright hues of our Inclusion Classico tiles underfoot.

“Living in the coastal village of Deià, I was influenced by the local Mallorcan landscape and Balearic interiors,” Matthew adds. “The sunset’s pink-gold glow inspired the palette; sand-toned terrazzo, blush pink marble and concrete, rosewood, plaster walls, brass, and rattan.”

“Creating this room set was a wonderfully collaborative process,” says Yousef Mansuri, C.P. Hart’s Director of Design. “Matthew brought a clear and inspiring vision to the project, and from there, we meticulously refined the details, thoughtfully selecting each product and finish to ensure they harmonise beautifully whilst retaining their standout appeal.”

Perched on the banks of Regent’s Canal, Little Venice sees the transformation of an antiquated bathroom into an eclectic pink and green sanctuary, as envisioned by the C.P. Hart Design team through its award-winning Design Service.

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

The Specification

The bathroom of Little Venice is an intimate space that required careful design consideration to fully optimise the floor plan. Working in close collaboration with the owner, the C.P. Hart Design team specified a generous inset bath with an integrated shower, a reduced-depth vanity unit and mirror cabinet for ample storage, and a wall-hung WC mounted beneath decorative niches.

Brushed Gold brassware features throughout the bathroom, all specified from C.P. Hart’s exclusive and highly sought-after Epoch collection. In the shower, a three-way diverter controls the overhead shower, hand shower, and bath filler. The Epoch wall-mounted mixer was chosen for the basin, installed above the Cielo Shui Washbowl in ‘Muschio’ to free space on the Cubik vanity.

“We boxed out the back wall to give the impression of a more open space,” explains the designers. “This allowed the Cielo Oval mirror cabinet to sit on the wall without infringing on the basin, whilst also creating a distinct separation for the ‘White’ Luminous Lume tiles and providing a ledge for accessories.”

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

The Result

“To add more depth and visual interest, we replaced the ‘White’ Luminous Lume tiles with their ‘Green’ counterparts in each niche,” shares the team. “Both the niches and Astro Tacoma Twin light, installed above the mirror cabinet, are dimmable – the perfect year-round ambience setter.”

“The owner originally briefed a checkerboard floor, though upon review of the 3D visuals, we decided the black and white pattern would prove too strong a contrast against the bathroom’s finishes. Instead, we opted for softer stone-effect grey and cream checked tiles, boasting a similar weathered aesthetic to the wall tiling.”

Farrow & Ball’s ‘Middleton Pink’ finishes the bathroom with playful charm.

In collaboration with C.P. Hart’s professionally qualified Design team, the owners of Sundridge Park, a residential property in Kent, created three distinct bathrooms: a primary suite, a playful cloakroom, and a marble-adorned shower room.

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

The Primary Suite

“The vision for Sundridge Park’s primary suite revolved around their brief of a generous freestanding bath and a spacious walk-in shower,” the Design team recalls. “Favouring contemporary interiors with classical elements, they opted for the striking Amazzonite tiles from our Cosmopolitan collection, juxtaposed with a traditional cast iron bath and accompanying brassware.”

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

The owners specified C.P. Hart’s exclusive Camden bath, painted in a muted sage to accentuate the green highlights from the Amazzonite tiles. The suite’s brassware – a combination of our classical Original and Waterloo ranges – is finished in ‘Unlacquered Brass’, a characterful finish that will develop a unique patina over time.

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

For the vanity unit, IdeaGroup’s Smyle was a natural choice, specified for its meticulously fluted wooden fronts and impressive storage capacity. Twin Cielo Era washbowls, finished in ‘Lino’, were chosen for their unassuming simplicity, allowing the textures of the brass taps, vanity fronts, and stacked tile backdrop to sing.

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

The Shower Room

“The shower room was conceived with meticulous attention to detail,” shares the Design team. “We extended the gold theme into this space, incorporating brassware selections from our Original and Waterloo ranges. To maintain a cohesive aesthetic, we colour-matched the brassware’s finish with the basin stand, towel radiator, and Matki Eauzone shower screens, strategically installed in the corner to optimise space.”

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

To add to the bathroom’s grandeur, the owners chose our Cosmopolitan Arabescato Oro marble-effect tiles. Crafted from rectified porcelain, these tiles not only exude the luxurious appearance of natural stone but also provide enhanced durability in a wet environment.

The Cloakroom

In contrast to the shower room, the cloakroom’s design draws on contemporary influences centred around the fluted concrete basin by British makers Kast. “The Kast Elm Mini basin is a true masterpiece. Specified in ‘Sage’ and mounted against soft blue stacked tiling, it perfectly sets the tone for the cloakroom.”

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

“We completed the basin with bespoke Samuel Heath unlacquered brass taps. Underfoot, wooden flooring owes the space its warmth whilst proving a functional choice for its hardwearing properties in a high traffic area.”

Featuring thousands of leading makers, Paris’s Maison et Objet fair is a global showcase that inspires all areas of design.

Yousef Mansuri, Director of Design at premium bathroom retailer C.P. Hart, visits this year’s event to uncover the five leading design concepts for the year ahead. From new, sought-after shades to travertine tiling, read on for the current trends influencing contemporary interiors.

Peach Fuzz

Pantone's Colour of the Year, 'Peach Fuzz' is a fresh and youthful shade nestled between pink and orange, exuding quiet sophistication with vintage charm.

This versatile hue lends itself to various surfaces across the bathroom, from painted walls to lacquered furniture and glazed tiles. Ideal for brightening dull spaces, Peach Fuzz effortlessly harmonises with a range of colours and tones, including warm neutrals, sage greens, and greys.

Irregular Shapes

Organic, curvy, and free-flowing irregular shapes have come to the fore. Reminiscent of fluid ripples, puddles, lakes, and rivers, these non-geometric shapes and asymmetrical patterns break away from rigid lines and uniformity – a perfect counterbalance to the often-found harsh lines in bathrooms.

This trend celebrates the allure of imperfection, infusing spaces with dynamic movement, excitement, and a playful edge. Mirrors, tables, basins, baths, and rugs, this organic trend is anticipated to cascade further into 2024.

Caramel Latte

Caramel Latte is a soothing amalgamation of neutral tones, with a base of off-white, chalk, and milky cream, complemented by warming accents of beige, brown, honey, and caramel. A calming, peaceful palette, Caramel Latte is at home in both traditional and contemporary settings, emerging as the new ‘modern-day neutral.’

When incorporating Caramel Latte into the bathroom, begin with the softer, lighter hues and introduce accents of toasted caramel – particularly effective with softer shapes. Think lacquered basins and vanity units, tonal soft furnishings, light fittings, and rugs.

Woven Appeal

Texture remains a principal element in modern-day interiors, lending surfaces depth and a tactile quality reminiscent of the natural world.

Artisanal and handcrafted items, shaped from natural fibres through weaving, knotting, and intertwining, are a celebration of traditional craftsmanship and ingenious techniques, seamlessly integrating into contemporary design while embracing sustainability.

Rattan, cane, wicca, and straw – sourced from various palm species in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia and Africa – are at the fore of this trend, with designers championing these materials through their choice of lamps, furniture, chairs, tableware, rugs, and art.

Travertine

Travertine, a variation of porous limestone, is formed when mineral-rich water passes through sedimentary rocks, leaving deposits that gradually harden over time. This chemical process gives travertine its distinctive pitted texture and wavy pattern, rendering each piece unique.

Robust and hard-wearing, despite its porous nature, travertine is sought-after in contemporary design, used for tables, worktops, tiles, and bowls. Displaying varying tones and patterns, travertine sings when paired with natural wood and woven accessories.
