Catalyst Interiors is the UK’s leading design and fit-out company in the healthcare sector, with 25 years’ experience of transforming healthcare environments. Our passion for creating thoughtfully designed interiors goes beyond visual aesthetics, our design team are consumed by a desire to positively impact the life and well-being of residents – focusing on their emotional and psychological needs to create vibrant, immersive, and nurturing interiors. Our goal is to create spaces that stimulate the senses, encourage interaction, and promote intergenerational connections, creating spaces where people of all ages can interact and engage with one another. We design interiors that everyone wants to visit, and more importantly, that residents love to live in.

What inspired the founding of your company?

Before establishing Catalyst Interiors in 1999, Mike Davies our Founder and Managing Director held significant roles as Estates & Property Director and Property & Procurement Director for two prominent healthcare groups. Through these positions, he gained profound insights into the needs and evolving demands within the healthcare industry. Mike was determined to make a meaningful impact and change to healthcare & care home interiors. Catalyst Interiors is the product of this passion for evolution, and we continue to strive for further progression in every part of our design process.

Catalyst Interiors was founded from a deep-seated realisation that care home environments deserved more than merely functional design; they needed spaces that truly nurtured the human spirit. We observed that many care homes lacked the thoughtful, sensory-driven environments that could genuinely improve the lives of residents. This realisation, combined with our passion for enhancing well-being through innovative design, inspired us to create interiors that do more than simply please the eye—they enhance the lives of the end user.

The clear vision that Mike had, has been borne out by the nurturing of a passionate and skilled team that continues to operate at the cutting edge of good practice, thoughtful design and exemplary fit-out that exceeds our customer expectations every time.

What is the core philosophy behind your work?

At the heart of our work is the belief that every space should be a sanctuary that evokes feelings of comfort, safety, and belonging. Our core philosophy is built on a human-centred approach where every design decision is guided by empathic approach to the needs of the end user. We strive to create immersive environments that transcend aesthetics by engaging the senses and uplifting the emotional and psychological well-being of the end user. We aim to transform care homes and healthcare environments into vibrant, nurturing communities that empower and inspire every individual. If you look closer our interiors, you will see the level of thought that has been applied, always with resident wellbeing in mind.

Is there a particular aspect of your company or projects you’d like to highlight?

We’re particularly proud to highlight our commitment to challenging traditional aesthetics within care home interiors. Catalyst Interiors create beautiful and considered care home environments, but it is our dedication to detail and research that make our interiors unique. Our design team are consumed by a desire to positively impact the life and well-being of residents – focusing on their emotional and psychological needs and promoting independence.

Every project is an opportunity to transform a care home into a vibrant, nurturing space that enhances residents’ lives. We integrate multisensory design elements that engage not only the eye but also the other senses, creating a sense of comfort, belonging, and familiarity. Whilst also ensuring that the practical, and technical needs of a care home are met with precision and care – it is vital to acknowledge that this is first and foremost someone’s home. Our holistic approach remains firmly rooted in understanding and elevating the emotional and experiential needs of residents.
