The SBID healthcare council consists of experts across the healthcare design sector. The council builds on current healthcare research programmes such as dementia, wellness, infection control and equality compliance. They also work closely with organisations to not only ensure best practice, but to also lead the way in new design concepts for the healthcare industry.

From news articles, journals and Q&As to live talks, debates and seminars, the SBID healthcare council provides expert guidance, inspiration and accuracy as well as helping each designer to improve their standards of practice.

Diana Celella – Chairman
Chairman of the Healthcare Panel

Diana is SBID's President Elect and Chairman of the Healthcare Panel (HDAC). As Director of The Drawing Room Interiors, she works in both the residential and commercial sectors and has designed many healthcare projects.

Professor June Andrews
Director of Dementia Design School, University of Stirling

June Andrews is an award-winning world authority on dementia care. She was awarded the 2012 Nursing Times Chief Nursing Officers’ Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her work.

Lesley Palmer
University of Stirling

Lesley Palmer is the Chief Architect for the Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Stirling. With over 14 years of professional practice experience, she is responsible for design training on the importance of and practical application of dementia design principles.

Alison Gilmore

Alison is experienced in the development and use of vinyl floor coverings across the broad spectrum of healthcare establishments and understands the impact flooring can have in improving the patient experience.

Colin McDermid
Akzonobel ICI Paint

With over 35 years’ experience in the decorative paints industry, Colin has specialist knowledge in colour in the built environment, decorative trends, period decoration and furnishings.

Carmel Satterthwaite

Carmel has grown the Panaz Healthcare brand by focusing on technical innovation without compromising aesthetic appeal. She has also developed collaborations with specialist partners such as Stirling Dementia Centre, independent test houses and specialist mills.

Emma Raybould

Emma Raybould is an experienced sales professional in contract interiors and looks after the interests of Panaz in the UK and Ireland across the healthcare, hospitality and workspace sectors.

Neil Tomkinson
Lumen Designers Ltd

Neil designs standard and bespoke lighting schemes, incorporating new lighting technologies, for environments built around a ‘residential feel’. In his work, Neil considers the impact on patients / residents and staff while trying to reduce initial capital and ongoing costs.

With 30 years' experience in contract wallcoverings, Alf has extensive experience across all sectors in the interiors industry, with emphasis on manufacturing and technical performance.

Southamption Solent University

As the course leader at Southampton Solent University, Sarah aims to bring together education, research and industry to contribute to the learning and enrichment of the next generation of interior designers. Sarah combines teaching with running a small refurbishment and planning practice.

Jacqui Smith
HomeSmiths Ltd

An interior designer who permanently lost vision in one eye in 2012, Jacqui uses her experiential knowledge of visual impairment in her care home projects. She has collaborated with sight loss charity Thomas Pocklington Trust on a guide for designers.

Dr Julie Christie

Regional Manager at HammondCare, Dr Christie was an associate with the Dementia Centre at the University of Stirling for 10 years, and has experience working with people living with dementia as a nurse, social worker and social work manager.

Professor Mary Marshall

Mary is a Senior Consultant with the Dementia Centre HammondCare. For over 30 years she worked with and for people with dementia. Previously the Director of the Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Stirling for 16 years.
