Volume 7 Issue 2
Having talked with world-class creatives within interior design from all across the globe over the years, it often strikes me that, despite the differences in the designers’ backgrounds, creative influences and aesthetic styles, they share many traits – from passion to a lifelong hunger for learning. One of the most exciting things about the world of interior design is that it never stands still and SBID is committed to ensuring all its members continue to learn and develop so they stay at the forefront of this global profession.
In this issue you can find pages and pages of creative inspiration, from our interview with the celebrated Chinese interior design Ju Bin on page 19 to the dazzling projects in the Portfolio, which starts on page 23. Talking of dazzling projects, the SBID International Design Awards 2018 are in full swing – the deadline for entry has been extended to 6 July 2018 so there is still time to be part of this great celebration of global creativity. With 14 categories, the Awards really showcase the true reach of great design and how it touches our lives. Of course, hand in hand with the razzle-dazzle of awards ceremonies that recognise great design comes the serious business of, well, running a business. Protecting your rights as a designer is a priority for SBID and in this issue you can read more about intellectual property and designers in the Business section, which starts on page 42. The three specialist SBID Councils were formed to bring together experts in healthcare, education and colour respectively.
The Council members take the most innovative and effective design research out to the industry however knowledge exchange is a two-way street and in this issue you can read how members of the Healthcare Council have been collaborating to raise the bar when it comes to the quality of healthcare design. It’s an inspiring read, on page 41. With that inspiration you’re probably ready to enter the Awards at www.sbidawards.com. Good luck to all those submitting entries. Creative passion, a commitment to learning, and sharing the best and latest design thinking. It’s what every issue – and SBID itself – is all about.
