Volume 6 Issue 4

An ever – evolving industry

SBID has achieved yet another major goal: when we launched one of our key points of difference was our aim to protect professionals, their work, their ideas and their profits. Now, we have finally launched the mechanism for enforcing the protection of design rights with our partner TM-Eye who will provide the vital missing link in the chain between theft and prosecution – discover more information on page 47. Shedding more light on the thorny issue of design rights, Suzi Sendama of Mischon de Reya guides us through common legal misconceptions regarding intellectual property (IP) in her regular legal column.

The 2017 International Design Awards were a great success. You can read about the winning projects in this issue and learn about the wonderful awards ceremony. We will be featuring more shortlisted projects throughout out the year. During the Awards Week we also hosted the 2017 edition of our 20:20 annual networking event to great success, attracting industry talent from all over the world. Another exciting event saw the inaugural SBID Masters inducted at a lunch at the Dorchester. With the design heritage of China often overlooked by the rest of the world, we wanted to redress the balance by honouring an extremely talented group of individuals who have reached the highest echelons of design excellence. I look forward to continuing to support you and our exciting, creative industry in 2018.

Dr Vanessa Brady OBE
