Our Hampshire based interior design studio is best known for creating timeless, individual family homes. We were founded on the belief that classic interior design, craftsmanship and the use of natural materials will always champion trends. Whether we’re working on a new build in Dorset or period property in Sussex our focus stays the same. Our name comes from the root meaning ‘to settle’ or ‘to occupy’ and from the verb ‘halla’, to untie, as in untying a pack horse or camel to make a camp. Mahala is also the surname of our Founder and Creative Director’s Great Grandmother, Ivy. With a particular love for textiles and traditional techniques, we are always looking for inspiration from different cultures while travelling the world. Our logo, a pomegranate, was found on a beautiful antique tile in Seville. The pomegranate was chosen to represent our interior design studio as the fruit still holds strong symbolic meanings in many parts of the world. When one buys a new home in Greece, for example, it is conventional for a house guest to bring as a first gift a pomegranate. It’s placed under the home altar of the house as a symbol of abundance and good luck.
