About

SBID is Britain's standard-bearer organisation of the profession of interior design and represents members in practice, higher education and industry.

What we do:

We connect and promote members in practice and business to facilitate business opportunities locally, nationally and internationally.

We support higher education through approved degree courses acting as a conduit into practice and business.

We represent a global network of 50,000 professionally accredited designers.

We accredit: SBID is the only destination to represent the professional accreditation standards in Britain of the 16 nation European Council of Interior Architects (ECIA) and the NCIDQ* competence exam body of the USA and Canada,

We measure Competence: SBID entered into an agreement with NCIDQ* in 2011 to be their unique and first ever representative to Britain and Europe.

*Prior to 2009, NCIDQ did not endorse, promote or engage in any business activity outside USA or Canada. Any promotion or 'passing off' of an association to or by NCIDQ on any website or by any organisation, company or individual in Europe should be reported to admin@sbid.org immediately.

How we do it:

In 2009 SBID was selected from British applications as the first and only interior design organisation and educational representative in Britain to represent and be inducted into the European Council of Interior Architects (ECIA), the highest level of measured knowledge and best practice for interior design throughout Europe.

Britain through SBID is now represented among sixteen other EU countries for the very first time in the twenty year history of the European Council.

SBID works energetically to promote the highest possible standards within British interior design, from training its members and acknowledging their achievements, to helping the industry exceed corporate and social responsibility goals. In brief, SBID:

  • Enhances professional standards in the interior design industry and promote best practice.
  • Endorses professional interior designers by validating their knowledge and skills providing them with an internationally transferable accreditation to a recognised European standard.
  • Promotes graduate level education as the industry standard.
  • Provides accredited Continuing Professional Development programmes (CPD).
  • Provides guidance in all areas of the industry from job applications to how to tender for commercial projects.
  • Represents the interior design profession, lobbying and liaising with government departments, media, trade associations, education establishments etc. on key
    issues affecting the design industry.
  • Helps facilitate trade by providing access to industry support services.
  • Provides regional, national and international networking benefits with like-minded individuals and organisations.

SBID will always represent the professional interior design industry in an objective and fair way which is why the core values of meritocracy and not-for-profit are enshrined within its constitution.

Where we do it:

The SBID glass-fronted offices represent the ethos of the Society, they are transparent, bright, contemporary and an active part of the community, connected with technology and well positioned for business.

We do not follow the road of the interior design industry, we create and tread our own path independently from the crowd. SBID offices are in a business development on the southbank of the river Thames, beside the helipad in Wandsworth. The office development is close to all transport links across Britain and Europe by air, train and road. Our door is open.

...designed for business.
